though canada is its own country, by virtue of being neighbours with the US, so much of what happens down south has palpable effects up north. immigration policies, international trade relations, national security, women's reproductive rights, trans rights, climate change initiatives... like it or not, we are intrinsically tied to the choices made by the current and future leaders of the united states.
i may not be an american citizen myself, but pretending that this election won't have a direct impact on canada is doing a massive disservice to myself as an immigrant and naturalized canadian citizen.
presently watching the election results come in with bated breath.
