I’m 40 pages into this book and really enjoying it. I got it for Christmas this year and read around 15 pages and then put it down. The other day I picked it back up and I am enthralled.

After a highly anticipated wait I finally received my copy from the library this morning. I’m already 4 chapters in—couldn’t stop reading—and it’s spectacular. Easily her best book since Normal People, if not better. As always Rooney’s characters are complex and flawed, but that’s what makes them loveable. I like how she writes Peter’s prose in the style of James Joyce—it reads like Ulysses. Next up: Boulder, The Parisian, and Borders, Human Itineraries and All Our Relation.

I know I arrived late to the party but OMG I love this book… history, multi-generational themes of the immigrant family, love and loss… like could it get any better? It’s been 5 days and I’m halfway done already. Big plot twist happened and I was like😟 Also reading Middlemarch that Min Jin Lee coincidentally said was her favorite book in a recent interview…on my Min Jin Lee grind.

This is one of the best books I read the year it came out— it’s originally in French, and is the first of a quartet, but can be read alone. The elaborate world building is such a satisfying contrast to characters that are hyperreal and it was such a beautiful read; I sat with it a long time after I’d finished, and I think it fits the brief of “blow your mind” very well.

There are few things more beautiful than glass. Someone once told me that glass is actually one of the strongest materials, but I can’t explain why because I don’t remember the specifics. Some glassware approaches an impossibly perfect form. I like paperweights, perfume bottles, and pitchers. I’m resuming my collection soon, but first I need to save some money.

Mostly these days I think about furniture, and spend a lot of my time looking at furniture online. I got this beautiful lamp four months ago, and now I match everything to it.
