by Daniel J. Boorstin. All about psuedo-events, and the idea of hero (someone who did something) vs. celebrities (who do nothing). Written in 1960 but scarily relevant to today.

You know how there are some people you meet, and after meeting them, you begin to see them everywhere? They were always there, but once you know their name or their face, you realize just how present they already were in your life? This book is a bit like that for me. It’s not super niche, but for a book published in ‘62, its predictions couldn’t have been more spot-on. Once you read it, everything it outlines and describes just emerges in your everyday life.  Boorstin coined the term “Pseudo-Events” — [ an event arranged or brought about merely for the sake of the publicity it generates] and it’s endlessly relevant in an era of constant openings, launch parties, etc.  Maybe you’re reading this on your way to a Pseudo-Event, maybe you are a human pseudo-event.

I don’t really like to read fiction, it’s just not my thing. When I look for books, I’m usually just as drawn to the authors as people as I am to the work. If you’re not familiar with Glenn O’Brien, he’s kind of a New York City legend. Glenn got his start as one of the first writers at Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine, bushed elbows with Basquiat, and for a few years hosted TV Party on NYC public access television. Later in life, Glenn became GQ’s first Style Guy.While I’m not yet finished with Like Art, it’s been a really great read. It’s a collection of columns written between 1984 and 1990 and originally published in Artforum. It’s witty, hilarious, and brings to life an important character after he’s gone. It’s also published by Karma in the East Village which is pretty cool.

The definitive overview through the 80s-90s designer and art director Tibor Kalman thought provoking career --- Recommended to me by a favorite professor in college – I was able to track down a library copy that I clung to for months at the time. Not easy to purchase, I recently found my own copy at a used book store and was wowed once again by the enthusiasm design can hold. Thank u Adream for the recommendation years ago 🫶🏻 I share it whenever I can

What happens behind the wheel is, frankly, none of my business. I'd rather spend my time picking songs/sipping coffee/taking in the scene. Driving is so pedestrian.

I swear to god this shit is too powerful. It doesn’t always work out the way I hoped but the win/loss ratio is definitely in my favour. We are social creatures. We like helping each other. Just do it. Ask me for something if you want. Who knows what I’ll say.
