Bruh. Had the good fortune to see Cloakroom play in Denver a couple of years ago at the Hi-Dive (the bestest, iykyk💘) At one point in the set, their frontman played a guitar solo that I can only characterize as the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard. Needless to say I was haunted by it and spent the next day combing through their entire catalogue to hear that solo again. I couldn’t find it, but the journey solidified me as a huge Cloakroom fan. I was listening to their new record in my car today and !!! Immediately recognized the guitar solo in this song from that night 🙂‍↔️💚🐬🦋⚡️

Debut album by a severely underrated band from New Zealand. Hard to give it a specific genre, but expect witty poetics, and an art rock sensibility. They recorded the whole thing on a 4-track cassette and I think it is an example of rock minimalism par excellence. My favorite track “Don‘t Let Me See You Swing and Miss“ is a tender dialogue between the lead singer and a guest vocalist set over somber, melodic guitars—it gets me feeling lots of things. Go check it out 🫶🏻
