Went to see this at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn on 35mm. Figured I’d go check it out cause I wasn’t familiar with it and it has Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, two of the most commanding actors to ever grace the screen.
One of the most bizarre, but entertaining movies I’ve ever seen. It almost feels like a parody of the y2k/cyberpunk/police procedural movies in the post-irony era, but it’s so hammy that it manages to charm you over by the end.
Russell Crowe basically plays mecha-evil incarnate. In one scene, he holds a rave hostage and makes them scream in certain octaves so he can orchestrate and remix the sounds on a soundboard like a DJ. That’s somehow not the craziest thing that happens in this film, but it’s the coolest.
