and i just do straight espresso lol BUT i used to be a barista so when i wanna make an iced latte, here’s what i do: - ice cubes to nearly the brim of a 12 to 16oz glass - add 2 shots of espresso - add milk of choice to the top. if you’re using sugar or a syrup, put the syrup first then espresso, swirl to melt/mix, add ice, then milk. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: many home espresso machines make one shot of espresso at a time, but lattes you buy at a café should have two, so if you want it to taste like a café use two (also, a single shot of espresso has less caffeine than a cup of regular coffee, 60mg vs ~90mg) you can also do a redeye: - fill cup halfway with ice - add 1 shot of espresso - add chilled coffee (NOT cold brew) about 2/3rd or 3/4th way filled to your liking - then add milk to top for a hot latte: - syrup/sugar if desired first - then 2 shots espresso - then add slightly less milk than in an iced latte, after simmering it in a pan first (if you just add cold milk it will be room temperature / weird. be extra careful if using almond milk, it heats very poorly. and is bad for mother nature lol) if you want flavoring, i recommend the torani dark chocolate or caramel “sauce” for those flavors, and monin (vanilla, hazelnut, lavender). never buy honey-flavored anything, just use actual honey and stir with the espresso, before adding ice so it doesn’t solidify

Moka pot! easiest and cheapest way to replicate espresso at home without having to shell out for a machine. i also love to buy nice beans-- local roasteries usually have great selections so you can find a type you love. it feels a little expensive sometimes, but if you like it enough to stop going out for coffee so much, i think the money adds up in the end. A milk frother can go a long way too. Nothing fancy, i just heat my milk up in the microwave and then froth it if I'm in the mood for a latte or something like that. u can also get a syrup flavor or something to switch things up.

Fancy coffee bar? Espresso or its' martini form. Fancy café? Espresso. Fancy cute café? Affogato or Vienna. Casual café? Lattes in the morning, americanos in the evening. At home? From a friend's mokapot preferably so I'm not making it, black, two sugars. Hotels? Black, two sugars unless they can make a decent espresso. Buffets? Black, pour in a bunch of the delicious cheap creamers, lots of sugar, etc., their coffee isn't always fantastic.

Been finally getting back into it the past couple of days! If you have access to an espresso machine (mine is a cheap, entry level one), the ritual of making espresso is the perfect way to start your morning. The grinding of the beans. Tamping the grounds in a portafilter. The trial and error of pulling a good shot. The feeling when you finally get it dialed in. It’s a deeply rewarding process. Saves money in the long term too!

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

i had it for a little over a year until i was like wow this is actually terrible! i genuinely think it has negatively impacted society by ruining people’s attention spans, having a horrific algorithm, and most of all by the most mind-numbing or outright harmful trends - fake words that people now use IRL (“unalive”), trad wife tiktok, shein hauls, body-focused fitness vids that encourage fatphobia and unhealthy habits, shallow political/feminist theory and queer discourse, “alpha male” podcaster tiktok, encouraging overconsumption in general, trends ruining local spots or niche things… the list goes on
