listen, i know everyone and their mother has been to portugal this summer — but for good reason!!
a great first trip for anyone who hasn’t been to europe before. friendly locals and a beautiful city.
mg37 highly recommend doing a bar crawl! even if you don’t drink, it’s a fun way to meet people from all walks of life. i literally met a group of middle aged men on a bachelor trip and one of them had dildos duct taped to both their hands. straight out of a fever dream.
mg37 other notable mentions:
cascais - gorg beach town like 20 mins from lisbon. go see boca do inferno while you’re there!!
any miradouro/viewpoint
copenhagen coffee lab was my fav spot for iced dirty chai
I recommend Lisbon because is the capital, and you also have nice beaches there and many good spots to absorb the culture (one of my fav spots is a chill bar with a lot of vintages collection on the walls called “pavilhao chines“ to enter you have to ring the bell or wait for someone to come out) if you had more time I would also recommend Porto (is where I’m from) it has a lot of beautiful spots as well!
This was my last trip out of the country and it was so beautiful I really fell in love. Absolutely immaculate vibes, beautiful architecture, amazing food, lots of sunshine, great activities, PASTEL DE NATAS, wonderful place.
love love love lentil soup. it’s so comforting and also keeps you feeling full and satisfied.
i’ve made minor tweaks to the recipe i linked:
- add 2 cloves of minced/pressed garlic after the onions and celery have sweat
- add 1 tsp each of turmeric powder and cumin powder
- use both the zest AND juice of the lemon
for the last few years I’ve booked off work for my birthday and treated myself to a me day. this consists of scheduling a massage or facial (truly the best), splurging on a nice lunch and dessert, and sometimes a movie!
