there’s comfort knowing that 1) we could ideally communicate with each other in spite of language and 2) there is a symbol for any & every sound you can utter … 3) I’m obsessed with accents

I love hearing people speak other languages that i can’t understand it feels so distopic and sureal that whats coming out of their mouth makes sense to someone else. Oh and other alphabets go crazy too, like you are telling me that that bunch of lines have a meaning that i dont know? ughh so cool.

I love, absolutely love, seeing how people pronounce things and getting my friends to pronounce certain words just to see how they say them. The other night at a cinema I had a chat with a guy and the bartender about it and we all did little pronunciation runs, it was so fun!! language can be such a terrible dominion of social domination, and I feel like celebrating how other people pronounce things can be a great way to help combat that.

Knowing another language is awesome. It gives you a slice of omnipotence. Once you become fluent in a language, there’s no translation time in your mind- you don’t have to hear the word and go “oh this means this”. The word just is- you hear it and it instantly registers. It’s kind of like being able to be in two places at once in your head.

Editing clothing gets me away from digital neuroses and back into the material, unstitching and seeing how something is folded in on itself to function. I discovered this subtle little utensil long ago on a summer internship at a theater company in the Berkshires in the costume shop. I'd trade music recs with the ladies for time spent on the serger (ruining several great t-shirts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'd scored at a local thrift) but the seam ripper really stuck—and careful because it sure can: ouch! Without context, it's hard to place and intriguing; you find it in an dusty old a drawer wonder what it's used for. Itchy tag? Seam ripper. Dated collar? Seam ripper. Ugly hem? You get the idea. Seam ripper tattoo? Hmmm...
