i had a poetry professor a while back who LOVED found poetry and got me into the habit of writing down any phrase that i encounter and found funny or interesting or profound or wtv and anyway it's my most prized possession. after you start collecting quotes and phrases and words they line up in your notes app and it makes a beautiful profound collage of your life, currently the one in my phone is almost 200 lines long, but here are the first 30 or so lines for reference: i was outside the matrix with watercolor at list why is there rice? i didn’t eat rice?? i didn’t sell out i bought it it was one o’clock forever i’ve done seen rhode island bring back the swan wide eyed babe you’re gonna carry that weight ambiguous sentences sun glitter i have sick ambiance in my room bruh and im like wait that’s the roofie this must be what it’s like to have a child that’s stupid free prometheus is the wind taking my cigarette i like his name, i will remember his name i am trumps little baby boy forrest into lumber farm bad things come in threes so you should break a match one of the worst parts of the pig farm i didn’t know killing children was a jew thing i love your opinions they remind me of state media

I love this question! heres a few things I return to for inspiration. Jim Jarmusch‘s Paterson to remember the small beauty in creating every day, for yourself if nothing else. All of Mitski’s live performances, (and all her records tbh) to find the balance between raw vulnerability and studied theatrics. Mary Oliver’s poems (especially wild geese) to remember the joy amidst pain. Sylvia Plath’s poems (especially Lady Lazarus) to see how one’s own wallowing can become shared catharsis when turned into art (making work isn’t selfish even when its about ourselves). Kelly Link’s short stories to find weirdness and playfulness (not everything has to have a moral or deeper meaning).

i recommend it. i find it comforting to recite a poem i really like! i have “having a coke with you“ by frank o’hara memorized and it’s satisfying to hear its sonorous curves.

This place feels frozen in time in a charming way with a tinge of liminal space aesthetic. The nostalgic candies and toys make it feel familiar to me but only because I remember the stories from my mom and grandma's childhoods. This place carries a ton of specialty drinks and even offers an option of crafting your own soda with tons of syrup flavors to choose from. I'm still working on my perfect soda flavor combination. I'm recommending Galco’s not just for the vibe but for their sandwiches! Being from the east coast (new jersey, philly, new york) ive become a lowkey (hoagie) sandwich snob. The bread is my first priority and the bread here is the perfect texture. I really enjoy the Turkey Blockbuster without mustard and a bag of salt and vinegar chips.

I like to think Audre Lorde is one of my guardian angels. She has left so many road maps that help me navigate through this life. One of my favorite quotes by her from her essay Poetry is not a luxury - “ The white fathers told us, I think therefore I am; and the black mothers in each of us -the poet- whispers in our dreams, I feel therefore I can be free.”
