this movie transports me to a different world. but it also has such real feelings of womenhood. there's like a 30 minute ballet seen in the middle and it's crazy. leaves you feeling very empty but it's so damn good.
oh my god. I went into this thinking yeah yeah fun pretty technicolour Powell & Pressburger postwar ballet film. and it is all of those things. but it is also PERFECT. dramatic and beautiful with queer and feminist overtones/undertones that are so exciting to identify in a 75 year old film and a plot that speaks to anyone caught between art and the conventions of love!! And it has a 17 minute hyperreal ballet sequence through the psyche! genuinely want to scream about it to everyone i’ve ever met
A woman once said “I don‘t give a fuck about The Red Shoes” and to be honest with you, I disagree! It has romance, adventure, technicolor, fairytale energy, and a dream ballet sequence. Will watch any time any day 🩰
Idk about most, but most recent it's this. I don't know how or in what way it inspired me. It just slapped me and walked away and I've been thinking about it ever since.
especially from smaller artists. when you go to a show, buy their CDs! buy their vinyls! this is their livelihood. support your local bands (if they sound good). and once you hear that shit on your record player it will sound 100x better than spotify. and you’ll have it forever (who knows what will happen to streaming).
obsessed with the lighting…. the mystery plot… go watch some beautiful people in the 40s make a wonderful film. they just don’t so it like this anymore.
