Also, tip your bartender when you order it because it does, in fact, take up their time—time they could dedicate to someone else’s typically tipped actual purchase that helps their sales. Even $1 will brighten their spirits, because it will be unexpected. And I can almost guarantee you won’t have to ask them for a straw or extra lime the next time you order it. Sometimes, if it’s a slow night, I’ll even throw down a fiver. I know how much it sucks to have a slow night and how small gestures like that can make your night a bit better.
