handwriting your notes
a lost art. when i was i school this was the only way i could retain anything. even when i write personal essays and stuff now, i feel like i understand the subject matter better when i take time to hand write key points and notes. also i just love the chicness of a notebook and pen.

lucius if I’m writing anything that’s not dense informational research related I have to type because my thoughts go way faster than I can write + i edit as I go so I end up blacking out most of the page lol

taterhole lucius i seem to be a cross between the two of you! my outlines and roughest drafts tend to be handwritten but more flows out once i transfer all that to the screen and begin typing.

Whenever I’m writing something technical for work and I have trouble coming up with what to say it’s so much easier to articulate myself on paper!!

taterhole agreed…when we are learning about new exhibitions for work i often have to write my introduction spiel out before im comfy enough to communicate those ideas to visitors.

Meeting notes, letters, journal entries, lists, mind mapping, whatever, it gives you a reason to use cool pens/markers, notebooks/paper. You can also practice your handwriting like when you were a kid (btw did anyone else’s school ascribe social status to the way you wrote a lowercase “a”?). This includes cursive which is a dying art! Something something scientific studies about how writing by hand helps with processing information and emotions… but mostly, it’s just an awesome sensory experience. It makes your notes, ideas, etc. really feel like YOUR OWN.

Fuck your notes app and get a cute journal that you can stick stickers onto and carry around as your pride and joy. I love when I write a particularly good song or poem and I can look down at the words in my own handwriting because I did that! And it’s tangible! And I can hold it and feel proud!
