my first wondering — when you talk about feeling guilty over good things happening — is why is that? What is driving that guilt? And also, is it really guilt or something else? Like, fear that it is going to be yanked away or that it’s all a facade?

guilt is doing something wrong and feeling remorseful, while shame is feeling that you as a whole are wrong. there’s more to it of course, but being conscious of the difference has helped my self confidence immensely.

Sadly I’m often afflicted by heavy guilt. Last Sunday I decided it was too much and I engaged on a series of small acts to help me process my big collection of guilts. It can look like texting people back or reassuring yourself that you’re acted righteously or acknowledge you’re letting yourself be affected by outside judgment or shit talking someone to your friends or saying fuck it out loud. Journaling about it, shooting darts on a printed piece of paper, taking naps, making soup. Whatever it takes. You will know. It won’t always work, but it’s usually soothing. Guilt is a stupid feeling, I’m tired of feeding it.

sometimes feeling guilty is appropriate. when we’ve hurt someone. when we owe an apology. when we’ve let someone down. but guilt for guilts sake? just to feel in control? productive? no thank you. translate it to gratitude.

this is worthy of celebration: the lack of video—autoplay video, noisy inane video, panicky video, algorithmic, dumb video, rabbit hole video, any video—on pi.fyi is a good thing
