so fun to read academic articles and see just how petty the authors are - i feel like academic writing gets a bad rep for being boring (which it often is) but it can also be so fun to see academics tearing each other to pieces in a sophisticated way - this came up bc i have to write a paper on the differences between sociology and history (or if i don't think there are any) and sociologist straight up said that historians don't know anything about history

omg i did my thesis on a thing in queer history and trying to combine soc and history (soc and gender studies student) was PAINSTAKING. sociology has a very well-established set of methods and standards for research while history as a field basically doesn’t have methods which makes them very difficult to combine 🥴 there’s a lot of good writing as well about historical sociology versus history

If you’re looking for a reliable and extensive resource for learning, I highly recommend JSTOR. It’s an online library filled with academic articles, books, and primary sources across a wide range of topics like history, science, literature, and more. The content is curated and trustworthy, making it a perfect place to explore in-depth research or even just to satisfy your curiosity about niche subjects. I use it all the time, and it’s my favorite platform for learning! You should look into some niche philosophy and sociology topics—they’re super interesting! Like the philosophy of humor, which dives into why we laugh and how comedy connects us, or time perception across cultures, exploring how different societies experience time. Another cool one is the ethics of memory, looking at how communities decide what to remember or forget. Even stuff like moral luck (how much of morality is out of our control) or urban sociology (how city design impacts social behavior) is fascinating!

Like so many people, I never cared for history. It was always just a bunch of dates, cause-and-effect relationships, and names I had to memorize last minute before an exam. Now that I’m so many years separated from all that, I’ve finally found that I’m entering the pro-history phase of my life. I mean, it’s just so interesting. There’s such finite details available about everything, and sooo many different little niches with tons of resources equally as available as the obvious stuff. oh and it’s true, which is both terrifying and cool.

currently studying history in university and my workload is immense but i'm motivated by trying to understand why things are the way they are now and the different approaches you can take (sociology, anthropology, etc)

I made this card for my best friend’s birthday and I’m very proud of it - I drew things that remind me of her like her cats and her fav movie as well as photos of some of my fav memories together - it took so long because there were so many tiny pieces of paper to cut out but I just put on a movie and in the background and had fun crafting which was actually very relaxing

i am a stickler for being on time and by being on time i mean being 10 minutes early - i find it so disrespectful when people are consistently late because it just shows that they don’t respect my time and i don’t get the excuse that it’s just part of their personality bc if they really cared they would make an effort to change anyway this was brought on by the fact that i missed my very expensive train bc my friends were late
