I‘ve been rewatching because my mam showed me an old home movie of 9 year old me clutching an Ugly Betty Season 2 box set on Christmas morning and I was overcome with nostalgia. I got so much from that show as a goofy queer kid living in the middle of nowhere in the UK.
IMO it holds up!!!! Betty is actually sort of annoying but still so sweet and her fashion sense bangs in 2024. Mark, Amanda and especially Wilhelmina are comedy gold. The storyline surrounding Alexis and her transition is questionable at times, but on the whole treated with kindness. I feel glad that 9 year old me saw a (albeit fictional) trans woman on screen being treated with respect.

this show has become my spice of life and absolute favorite. It makes me laugh and cry and run around my house screaming. I’m just like betty she dances to the beat of her own drum truly. She is always trying her best. Just like me af. The show was also styled by Patricia Field who is my idol. Anything she touches turns to glitter and gold.

hear me out, y'all. this has been my comfort show for like a hundred years. it never gets old. the epitome of #wholesome.

maybe it's just because i spent most of my childhood around no-nonsense, bookish, old people in new england, but this show is A VIBE so stop sleeping on it.
