eat smoked salmon pasta and a chocolate zucchini cake in the shape of the age i’m turning, hang out with people i love, watch a movie, go to sleep. i never really had parties when i was a kid, just hanging out with my parents, and now i’m so grateful that i didn’t because the change from parties as a child to no parties as an adult would have been much more difficult and sad.

happy birthday to me! it’s a little hard to believe that i’m 21 now—even though i’ve technically been an adult for three years now, it seems that the reality is only setting in now, and i can feel that clear divide between teenaged-me and newly adult-me. not quite sure what to make of that. birthdays are always bittersweet, and the last two particularly were filled with melancholy—but i can check this one off as a success since i didn’t even cry! i went to the movie theaters and saw nosferatu (and also bought a theater membership because one of my goals for the new year is to go to the movies as much as possible). i had the best matcha latte of my life. i went home, cut the cake (the most delicious triple chocolate cake, by the way), then watched gladiator ii with my family. nothing flashy by any means, but if there’s one thing this year has taught me, is that it’s the simplest things that bring you comfort. i hope 21 is kinder to me. i’m trying my best to keep my hopes low (since it seems the universe is always conspiring against me), so all i can do is wait and see what it brings me. cheers 🥂

i have never in my adult life thrown a party because i always found reasons not to. now my birthday is coming up and i decided i'm going to throw one despite all the reasons i can think of not to (my apartment is approx 100sq ft, i have very few friends, etc) and it’s giving me something to look forward to. i can’t believe i wasn’t doing this all along.

i’m needing to remind myself that being odd and dressing uniquely is not a bad thing. going back to university and not knowing anyone in my classes while also showing up in a full tweed suit or a tetris cardigan or a long brocade jacket is okay. don’t let the uniqueness leave you just because people give you strange looks.
be more like the girl that dresses in head to toe lolita coords every day. or the guy that came to class dressed as soulja boy for no particular reason. get weird with it!!
