I think this is the closest a film can get to visual perfection. I'm so late to the party on it, but I finally knocked it off my watchlist for the first time yesterday and I'm obsessed with it now. The colors are gorgeous, the old practical effects are so fun, and the whole thing is so weird and campy. MWAH. PERFECTION. I think fake blood being shot on whatever cameras they were using in the 80s is genuinely one of the coolest textures/colors in film. The opening credits are so fucking cool & the performances are stellar. It got a standing ovation in my living room. Still have to watch the sequel! (TW for attempted assault scene, heads up!)

btw, the 50 year anniversary of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is being celebrated at Regal theaters everywhere, and if you haven’t experienced it on the big screen, kid, I fuckin implore you to. It’s beautiful. and I mean that. upon watching you will fall ill, your poor stomach will churn and churn, the cold dark of the theater will envelop you not unlike death itself . if your hair doesn’t fall out on its own, you’ll rip it straight from the follicle in a prehistoric animal-programmed fear response. You’ll love it. Also I won’t spoil it but there’s an incredibly funny scene nearly at the end of the film that will likely make you cry tears; its rather reminiscent of a moment in an episode of Tom and jerry. Anyways goodnight. I’m beyond impressed, I just had to gush. No matter how many times I watch this shit it never ceases to make me sick, and that’s pretty special.

This is probably one of my top films ever. Some of the most fun and creative practical effects, great story, stellar performances, and overall absolutely infectious.

I love doing collages, cuz all you really need are magazine cutouts and glue. There's a very low barrier to entry, skill-wise AND supply-wise, unlike painting. Digital collages are fun too, but I try to have less screentime by doing the paper ones. If I want to re-use pieces instead of gluing them down permanently, sometimes I'll just take a picture of the current arrangement to immortalize it, and then start over on a new composition. That way, I don't have to constantly buy new magazines to get new cutouts. This is one of my favorite ones I've done so far:

This is the only thing that keeps me sane at work. It's so slow right now. If anyone is wondering why I've posted like 9 times today.
i always get stuck choosing which stuff to watch/read/get into next when i look at my huge former watchlists & TBR's. a lot of items are things i put on there years ago and never got around to, so usually by the time i check the list again, my tastes have totally changed. i realized it was hard to get myself excited or motivated about half the stuff i put on there anymore, but i felt indebted to knocking it out anyway just because it was on the list. i'd recommend letting your current feelings/impulses take the wheel, and trust that you'll come back around to any of the other options if they're right for you later on.
