“Bled my heart out pen to pad
I sang sad songs about my dad
And turns out no one's into that
Except for all my superfans“
Anyone familiar with the ways the modern music industry works (especially for artists who weren’t some executive’s nephew) will know all too well where this song is coming from.
Also has a wonderful music video on YouTube animated by Maxime Simonet: https://youtu.be/OGjjKifcQ9k?si=dX3QoxUeMxJVvP58
Old Sufjan B side, one of my favorites. I return to this video a lot, a fanmade slice of life gem from 2006. feels exactly like growing up in rural Montana, I don’t think I’ve seen anything that transports me in quite the same way.
off the charts. i can't stop watching it. i get teary eyed at the part where he talks about music touching our souls & when he calls his son on to camera and sings his praises as a musician
My favorite sad song 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️ I saw him perform it live and bruh I was sobbing. It’s about his father who always prioritized his own music career and left his family when Rufus was only a few years old. Def give it a listen if you love being devastated!!!
I’ve been trying to watch Spike Lee’s “Girl 6“ for literal years and I finally got to watch it on this website. They’ve got a ton of rare, out of print, or otherwise hard to find movies available online.
Not a perfect movie by any means but every time I watch it I feel better haha. The song WILL get stuck in your head for a few days without fail. It’s available on Hulu now.
Honorable mentions:
Both Spiderverse movies
My Neighbor Totoro
Stop Making Sense
Monsters Inc
I’m a merchandise designer for bands and my small dream is to see someone I don’t know wearing something I designed, even better if it’s not at that band’s concert. Not sure whether I would say anything to them about it or just keep it to myself
