i loved these at school and now at my job when i have to dive into spreadsheets and research i like to have them playing, and if i’m at home i usually burn a complementary candle. also when i read fiction books i sometimes like to listen to one of these in the background with a vibe matching the book
i also like the ones that don’t have jazz and are just background sound without music. also there’s some channels that do book or movie themed ones like this one that has studio ghibli background ambience videos

When I'm working I like to have something playing in the background. Usually, that comes from youtube. As I've mentioned previously in recs - sometimes it's Kenji videos, but often it’s random ambient youtube playlists. Whether it's ambient forest sounds, libraries, or whatever your favorite fictional world is (yes I play ambient harry potter music), there are endless several-hour-long videos on youtube for you. This is ASMR at its finest.

During the pandemic home times I got really into putting an ambient room on in the background while I was reading. I love a library room with sounds of dust crackles and book pages turning. This creator Miracle Forest makes a lot of great ones with their own little story like “Hiding in the bathroom at a weird gathering,” or “Abandoned gas station at the end of the world.”

depending on the work i’m doing, i’ll pick the type of ambience that matches. for example, chem work = scifi ambience, lit work/essays = fantasy wizard ambience, etc.

i had it for a little over a year until i was like wow this is actually terrible! i genuinely think it has negatively impacted society by ruining people’s attention spans, having a horrific algorithm, and most of all by the most mind-numbing or outright harmful trends -
fake words that people now use IRL (“unalive”), trad wife tiktok, shein hauls, body-focused fitness vids that encourage fatphobia and unhealthy habits, shallow political/feminist theory and queer discourse, “alpha male” podcaster tiktok, encouraging overconsumption in general, trends ruining local spots or niche things… the list goes on
