there's no wrong reason to go to paris but this one is definitely a wrong reason to go to paris.

Listen, I may be generationally poor, single, and cursed with low, Irish cheekbones but I have the best friends in the entire world who jet me to Europe when I'm feeling low. I'm going for like 72 hours and that's enough time to get fucked up at this dive bar near Moulin Rouge where the bouncer is strapped with a machine gun with my friends and eat a croissant.

just came back from my first trip to paris here is what i rec as a first timer who fucking crushed it • when parisians start speaking to you in french just stare at them like this 😃 and don't say shit • the louvre-adjacent mcdonalds • a thin black scarf • being really brave at the top of the eiffel tower • facetiming my dad on his birthday (if it is my dad's birthday while you're in paris) (nov 10th) • only going to restaurants you will never recover from financially • walking into any nightclub and buying the 12€ poppers • accidentally almost saying "bonjour" to the first person you see in your neighborhood back in america (i'm cooked)

when i was younger i would wake up and just sit up in bed staring at literally nothing for five mins, just letting thoughts pass me by and not focusing on anything in particular -- truly a great way to start the day is to sit in silence and stillness for a few mins (in hindsight i may have stumbled into meditation without meaning to but suffice to say i'm doing this again now and it's the best!)

lots of great responses in this thread! just wanted to say that true change takes so much longer than we expect it to. I started on a journey of “changing my life” and my attitude towards it back in 2020, and its only now in 2024 that I’m starting to see major changes that I can trace back to that original decision to improve my life. Sure, there’s been lots of rewarding little milestones along the way, but the big things take time. The lesson is, don’t be hard on yourself if you make changes but your life isn’t tangibly improved next month. Make changes for your long-term future self :)

i'm talking The Dreamers, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Before Sunrise. Movies just don't hit like that when you see them for the first time when you're already grown
