It's just fun writing about things that don't or won't matter and that you won't remember. Those things make up your life.

instead i keep a notebook in my bag and write down anything that strikes me as interesting: something funny a prof said, a lyric and why i like it, an interesting dream, a recurrent thought i've had for a few days... helped me a lot more than journaling and i make it fun by diversifying it, which the journaling format lacks kinda? i mean, doing sketches and planning website pages and writing down thoughts abt a book i just finished and making editing decisions blablaboablabla ANYTHING U EVER THINK OF! that helped me uncover patterns and common themes in my life way more than journaling but ig it does amount to the same concept πŸ˜“

always thought i had to wait for my life to be amazing to start writing it down...turns out it was already pretty cool and i regret all the stuff i can't remember anymore. also just a helpful mental practice to get your thoughts out of your brain and on some paper so you don't have to worry about holding them all in there. spending extra time thinking about positive moments in your life is also a good way to help your brain default to positive thinking more often, like building a muscle. i make it fun by cutting and pasting a bunch of pictures and stuff so it feels like a craft instead of a chore, otherwise i won't really do it.

I journal nearly every day and it has changed my life. I feel like I know myself much more deeply and remember things better because of it. Sometimes I write many pages and other times just a few sentences. I like how it can be as silly or serious as I want and I like how it’s only for me.
