i’ve got this little red book that i carry around on me always that is an old vintage hardcover converted into a journal. any time i find myself feeling something unpleasant, getting a cool sticker, seeing a great movie, or just wanting to write i go straight to my little red book. growing up, i was never taught to express my emotions but 24 years later and a lot of life experience has taught me that it‘s okay to do so and you should have a space to do that safely. i hope you all find your little red books

been journaling for awhile and its been a tool for creativity and unwinding after a longgg day. but having a larger journal with many pages can be daunting so i would recommend a pocket journal of some sort and ur fav pen (even fun stickers and photos) so u can take it with u on the go and not feel too intimidated. i love writing what i just witnessed, immediate thoughts, and literally anything for memory keeping or reflection. im on my third pocket journal now and although i havent been consistent its been something i do look forward to revisiting all the time 💓

it has a slightly nebulous definition and might not be all that revolutionary of a concept but it consistently brings joy to my life. i use it as a collection of quotes & lines from film, books, music, and any other form of art and writing that resonated with me. sometimes i’ll just write down the quote, other times i’ll expand on why it’s meaningful to me. but now i have a collection of other people’s ideas that make me feel seen and speak to me to look at whenever i need it. using a physical journal also makes it more tangible, like i’m actually holding the ideas in my hands.

when I was a teenager, I burned all my journals because I didn’t want anyone knowing my thoughts. Or it was just to fit my dramatic emo aesthetic. Either way, I’m sad to not be able to look back on those times. Little me could have used empathetic older me. I’ve kept all of my journals since. Some of them are really hard to look back on and bring me back to really dark times in my life. I like having them available to me though. I like to imagine my kids or my grandkids reading through them someday and understanding me as a whole human, not just as mother or grandmother. I tend to write a lot more when I’m sad or depressed, so I’ve been working on writing during the good times too.

I wake up to my initial alarm, then immediately set another alarm for 30 minutes after that. For those 30 minutes, I can do anything I want except look at my phone. This is my first week test running this but for the few days I’ve done this I’ve had a full and productive morning and end up using my phone less in general. 10/10 would recommend

recently, my girlfriend left for a study abroad and most of my ffriends are on holiday break away from NY. therefore, i have just been in this cycle of working and eating and sleeping. these past few days, i've made it my mission to get something done before i leave for work. whether that is taking out the trash or getting a croissant, i just have to have done an activity that requires me to leave my bed before my next shift. who'd-a-thunkit, i actually feel a little bit better every time i do this! i feel like i am making sense of the time that i have and i find great pride in being intentional about my joy. to more days like these, my lovelies

If we were villains: it’s one of my new favs by ML Rios! It’s about a group of Shakespeare scholars that go to school in this prestigious university in BFE. They are doing a production of a play when someone turns up dead with no suspect. It’s super thrilling and an amazing use of shakespeare’s text to tie the story together. 100% recommend if ur into horror/murder mystery! Crowns of Nyaxia: This is a series by carissa broadbent that (currently) spans 2 main books as well as a couple spinoff books. The two main books are some of my faves in the fantasy genre. it’s hunger games with vampires! there’s amazing fight scenes, gore, poetry, and a little smut if you’re into that. I read both of these books this summer and this is the first time that i’ve read a spinoff in a series bc i loved the characters that much. enjoy expanding your horizons!!!!!
