Pulitzer Prize winning play about a group of Iranians studying for the TOEFL. I would have been perfectly happy even watching an extended 3-hour version Great story, beautiful dialogue, good pacing, excellent lighting design, and not to mention a group of incredible actors and awesome direction — all Broadway debuts! This is what happens when you let people just tell their story without letting “marketability“ get in the way. Now go do your part and show Broadway that these are the shows we want to see with your wallets and your butts in seats

My friend’s stepson was super involved in producing this play when it was off Broadway; now it’s been promoted to The Show (Helen Hayes Theatre). Incredible to think he just turned 30. I sure as hell wasn't producing a Broadway show back then! It concerns Jane (a traumatized content moderator working in the Bay for an unnamed tech company, played with panache by Sydney Lemmon, Jack’s granddaughter) and her assigned therapist Loyd (starring Peter Friedman of “Succession” fame) - 90 minutes, just the two of them on stage, deep in dialogue about the mental hazards of her job and the relative remove of his professional “connecting trauma A to trauma D.” She’s a Zoomer, he’s a Boomer. Add tension. Stir. Having spent the last decade living in Berkeley working in tech, this is all pretty on-the-nose for me. I loved it. There’s quite a plot twist here too. Go see it before it closes in September! The play’s the thing. PS: the Times seemed to like it as much as I did: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/30/theater/job-review-broadway.html

if you ask me for a play to cite, it’ll probably be this one. there is a special place in my heart for this play.  it is able to articulate the exact feeling of resentment as well as joy for a loved one getting out of a hard situation when you are still going through it. its romantic, in its own definitive way - and lives with you days, months, and even years after reading. i would give anything to see the pbs special of viola davis and rosie perez performing this

Go down to Brick Lane on Saturday or Sunday for the vintage market, it’s huge! Skip hotel breakfast and get a bagel from Beigel Bake while you’re there Camden Market is where everyone goes. There’s lots of cute stalls and plenty of indie stores between the tourist traps. Try to go during the week because it can get overwhelming with people Take advantage of the free (yes 100% free) museums! V&A is a must, especially the costume wing National Gallery/National Portrait Gallery is also nice Also, cannot emphasize enough to only eat ethnic food while you’re there and eat as much as you can Dishoom (if you can’t get a dinner res just stand in line for lunch) is still a top 3 meal of all time for me Try and get a res at Darjeeling Express! Chef Asma Kahn and her all-women run kitchen were featured on Chefs Table if you want to get to know her and the restaurant better and cry so much Zima is a v cute Russian spot in SoHo with cafe vibes and cool art If you’re a garlic girlie, Garlic and Shots is right around the corner and has, yes, so many different shots you can take and so much good bar food with garlic There’s also a casual Sri Lankan food place called Hoppers on the same block Seriously, forget about going out of your way for British food. You’ll be disappointed every time If you ever want to get out of SoHo, walking is so rewarding and there’s a ton a cute things to see. Also, the train is super easy (you can just use your phone to tap in and out now) if you want to explore other neighborhoods further out
