i decided to spend my birthday last year in patagonia because i wanted to go on an adventure and see beautiful things. the initial plan was to go to antarctica but that didnā€™t work out so i decided to go to as close to the end of the world as i could. itā€™s really one of those trips that make you believe in the glorious mysteries of life. exploring the wilderness while listening to black marbleā€™s ā€˜itā€™s immaterialā€™ was wonderful.

I don't know when I will be going to Antarctica but I would like to after I graduate college. My friend is going this winter to see a Ukrainian art installation on the research base for her senior thesis. I wish I could go too. Sometimes I just imagine going and plan my trip in my head.

I was afraid of all of the things a woman has been told to be wary of when traveling solo, and thankfully none of those fears were realized. Instead, I unlocked a new appreciation for the magic of traveling alone. Whether or not it was conscious, I ended up meeting and interacting with really cool older women. One of whom, I am convinced was myself from the future. Another I had the pleasure of sharing a campsite with, her name was Lynn. She told me how she got to the states, a long and amazing story from NZ to Chile (during Pinochet) to New Mexico. The next day was her 70th birthday, she was also traveling solo šŸ’•āœØ.

Something Iā€™ve always wanted to try by myself for the longest time. Maybe after I finish my masters and save up enough moneyā€¦ I want to leave this hustle and bustle behind for a few months. Saw an old acquaintance recently is in the midst of backpacking across some mountain trail in Japan by himself living the dreamā€¦ and it kinda made me realise what I could be doing with my life once I pull everything together.
