Phil Eleverum.. your favorite indie artists favorite indie artist? Headless Horseman was released in 2001 by The Microphones, in the album titled ā€œThe Glow, Pt. 2ā€œ. The Microphones was a project created by Phil Elverum, who is now currently releasing as Mount Eerie. I discovered The Microphones a few years back, and I was originally drawn to them because when I heard ā€œThe Moonā€ It reminded me of Neutral Milk Hotel, but better? The Glow, Pt. 2 was the first album of Philā€™s I listened to. Headless Horseman has always been a favorite of mine. Itā€™s always so fascinating when I hear a song thatā€™s so simple, just two chords and a little riff, and then a voice, but itā€™s so impactful and beautiful and unique. The vocals are amazing. Itā€™s gentle and soft spoken, which perfectly compliments the guitar. idk man i fuckin love this guys voice. A notable thing about Phil is his ability to paint a scene with his music. His songs always sound so nature-y, and even has some ambient-like qualities as well. Also heā€™s good at somgwriting lemme talk abt that.. The lyrics depict a shitty breakup almost perfectly. Breaking up with somebody you truly love just does feel like losing half your life. All their friends you befriended, gone. All the stuff they gave you, gone. ā€œyou turned me into a stray dog, from a mighty human manā€ All left to do now is just be an emotional wreck. You lost your home and now you just sit and stew and think about how badly you wish you could be home again, in that warm embrace you yearn for every night. ā€œI miss my closest friendā€ Realest lyric ever. The most beautiful thing about a relationship full of love is that your partner WILL be your best friend. And you know thatā€™s what also suck a lot about breakups. Not only do you miss your partner, you just miss your best friend. You MUST listen to The Microphones if you like anything folk, noise rock, ambient, and just good songwriting/storytelling and producing/mixing. FIVE BIG BOOMS

Adrienne Lenker is one of the most talented artists weā€™ll see in our lifetime. Sadness As A Gift will always have a special place in my heart. The first time I heard this song was with my beautiful girlfriend. We had just gotten back together and we were going to a show. We accidentally drove to the venue too early (in wherever the fuck maryland) and so we just sat in the parking lot and caught up on music we both found the 9 months we were apart. She showed me this song and i like how much it reminded me of her and i. I mean, I leaned on the windowsill hoping sheā€˜d write me someday. One thing I like about this song a lot is the little country aspects, just using a lot of cowboy chords and that violin that just makes u feel like ur at the petting zoo at a county fair on a hot sweaty summer day and it smells like manure. but in a good way. The harmonies are also a nice touch, theyā€™re a bit quiet; but thatā€™s so okay because if adrienne lenkerā€˜s voice was any less prevalent the song would not be as good. So yeah definitely listen to this song. Learn it to!! sing it with your partner!! itā€™s fun and very easy to play on guitar if youā€™re still afraid of barre chords. 5 big booms.

Suis la Luneā€¦ Could be the goats of screamoā€¦ idk guys. This song is the perfect mix of angry and sad, which fortunately makes the best emo music! First time I heard this song was under a bridge in Richmond. I was seeing a band called Godfuck and they covered this song and i just had to hear this song again. Now I wonā€™t lie.. I do skip that long ass intro. But if you listen to it for the first time, it really does add to the song so donā€™t skip it for real. I love the composition of this song, just progresses in the coolest fucking way. The intro is just very introspective. like a walk through the forest at maybe 7:00pm on like october 15th? and then you hear that REALLL introā€¦ that distant lead guitar riff echoing just hooks you. And one thing about Suis La Lune is they do NOT disappoint with those screams. From desperate-sounding to angry, just flawless. And that bass just ramming and ramming in your ear dude you know shit is REAL. If you are getting into skramz/screamo whatever you want to call it and havenā€™t check out Suis La Lune, do it. Coolest sounds ever. 5 big booms.
