The moment I saw Noah Kanber’s ceramic rendition of Mona Lisa, something clicked and I knew no one but her could do the cover for my new record “Heavy Glory”. Thank God she agreed.

Art is about more than identity, can allow us to transcend identity, but having been raised in the art world of the 90s, when painting was dying and women weren’t given the wall space they deserved, it’s a joy to watch femme painters rise to the top of the pile creatively and financially. I am lucky enough to cherish works by Jenna Gribbon, Jocelyn Hobbie, Kyle Staver, Ellen Birkinblit and my dear friend Issy Wood. I am currently obsessed with Larissa De Jesus Negron, Petra Cortright, Lucy Bull, Robin F. Williams, Somaya Critchlow, Gina Beavers and Cynthia Talmadge. It’s a lifetime dream to have a massive Lisa Yuskavage to wake up to (though I do have a print she gave me for my 26th birthday when I had a Soul Cycle party and everyone was mad except Lisa, who kicked all our millenial asses on the bike.)

This sculpture is in SLAM’s permanent collection and they recently put it on display after a long time in storage She’s my favorite artist, and you can look at this piece for an hour and it keeps feeling fresh, like you never get to the bottom of understanding it. I like her work (and this piece in particular) because it’s emotionally rich. To me it embodies paradoxes like being both playful and somber, lively and elegiac, busy but unified, individual but collective, primal but contemporary, geometric and organic, abstract yet figurative, dissonant and harmonious, pattern and noise, cheeky and serious, quiet and commanding. Go spend some time with her.

Unlike chess, which can leave you at the mercy of a 45 minute defeat with only your insufficient brain power to blame, backgammon has a nice and light pace to it.  Rolling dice feels good and you can put the blame on them in hindsight. I think board games like that are a great way to sit and spend time with people and be in each other's presence.

One of the albums that I’ve listened to the most. I remember many years ago being on acid watching the sun rise from my window and listening to Scott 3 feeling like I was riding through every emotion on the record to the furthest possible extremes, it was overwhelming and magnificent. When it was over I looked at myself in the mirror and saw I had become an old man.
