getting a physical copy is a little tough nowadays but if you can get your hands on an issue of raw digitally (and they’re definitely out there) it is the premiere book of art comics. some of the greatest underground comic illustrators were in these books. i thankfully own a decent amount of the big books and they’re a prized posession of mine. https://youtu.be/cPX4TiyJFPA?si=3ntOWqEuHpgRqboh

a magazine, interview, highsnobiety, i reeeally want to get some copies of issueissue, the face, cura mag 🫶 Also very into scooping 2000s issues of more mainstream magazines (rolling stone, esquire, gq, vogue, cosmo, vanity fair, maxim) if i see them at the thrift or used bookstore!

Art magazines have always been a huge wonder for me, probably because I’m too young to have been alive in their heyday. My dad used to write for Creem covering Detroit punk bands back in the day, and I grew up looking through all his old copies. This magazine, run by one one of my best friends Naz Kawakami, gives me that same feeling of belonging and obsession I used to get when I was a kid. Its graphic design in particular is incredible, reminds me a lot of what Chris Ashworth did with Raygun in the 90s. Def pick one up when you spot one.

i know for a fact that i’m guilty of wanting that dopamine hit of having people see my posts and like them, but i’m trying to change my mentality around that here. i’m finding myself more at peace just posting my recommendations and taking solace that someone might find them in the future and enjoy what i suggest, rather than needing an instant gratification of a like. i feel as though i’m adding a brick to the communal building that is this cool userbase of interesting people.
