While your anxiety could definitely stem from trauma or childhood, you canā€™t go wrong with learning somatic healing. Talk therapy can help with the rest. Combating anxious thoughts is a huge part of it, but itā€™s not complete without tuning into your body. It can be helpful to dig into why those specific people are making you feel anxious, and target those underlying thoughts and feelings. Thereā€™s a possibility they just suck and your body is alerting you of that šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Anxiety is our amygdala alerting us of danger. In the modern world, that can get trigged by things that arenā€™t actually dangerous. Deep breaths work because in actual danger we naturally do not breathe deeply. It signals to our brain to be calm. Everyoneā€™s why for anxiety is going to be personal to them, although not always different. Finding ways to activate your vagus nerve can help you enter into a relaxed state more often. Iā€™m a put an ice pack on my chest, deep breathe with my legs up the wall, and maybe throw on a guided mediation gal myself. Youā€™ll find what works, try things out.

But as someone who is emotionally distant and whose emotions are basically perpetually trapped beneath an ocean 1000 leagues under the sea of my mind and heart here are some other suggestions: * chakra yogaā€¦ starting at the root to help you feel safe enough to even explore and embody your emotions, sacral chakra to feel those emotions, solar plexus to feel empowered and confident, heart chakra to feel strong compassion for yourself and others, throat chakra to EXPRESS these emotions. Honestly I havenā€™t gone beyond throat chakra Iā€™m getting there * also just regular yin yoga for the hips because stuck emotions generally are stored there * meditationā€¦ body scans and Tara Brachā€™s RAIN method. Becoming aware of where these emotions sit in the body and learning to process them is key * reading emotional awareness educational materials for parents of toddlers.. actually very helpful at the most basic level * watch movies that relate to the emotions you feel distant from so that you can experience those emotions through the conduit of a fictional story. i call this an emotional enema

Start with doing yoga as a moving meditation. Yin Yoga or Yoga Nidra might be a very soft introduction to bring your mind & body into a meditative state. Lie down at the end, take your time and start appreciating Shavasana. Start feeling every body part at once by simply putting all your mental energy & thoughts into a specific area of your body. Start with your feet, move on to your knees, your stomach, chest, arms, fingers. End with your head. Start to feel thoughts as clouds passing by. After some tries you find your mind empty, released & at ease. Every time is different. Some times it will feel very easy, on some days you wonā€™t feel it working at all - But still you stopped 5 minutes from doing whatsoever, switched off your brain for a bit. It will help you feel calm on the long run šŸ’Ž

I always forget about it and then remember again and Iā€™m like oh yeah thatā€™s why Iā€™m not normal. You can write this into your journal every day to hold yourself accountable and keep track of your moods. You can look up safe calm place meditation on YouTube but itā€™s essentially a visualization technique where you imagine a place where you can be safe and totally at ease and the sensory experience of thatā€”mine was a grassy meadow with a stream of running water and cows mooing nearby. The more you build it up and return to it the more powerful it can become when you need it. I really enjoy Tara Brachā€™s body scan meditations and her felt smile meditation too. These are all for trauma obviously and the TICES log isnā€™t really relevant, but they could be really helpful for stress too I think because most of them are just basic elements of well being and awareness. I need to get back on this myself in these trying timesā€¦

This has become the norm and every day I grow more disturbed. I understand if somebody is behaving in a harmful way, that is good to document and put out there. But as a whole, it seems, we have become so comfortable with recording people just living their lives. I saw a video of a guy working and the caption of the video was that he was so hot, we needed to find him!!! Why are you providing the Internet with his face and location instead of just going up to talk to him? I saw another of two people on the subway, seemingly a couple, having a very emotional moment. How would you feel if you open up an app and saw a video like that of yourself? I donā€™t like this level of sibling society surveillance. Why are you videoing an elderly person with sad music dubbed over it to gain likes? It is WEIRD. Donā€™t even get me started on videos of children. It is WEIRD to use a stranger without their consent to get some kind of fake validation. Get a life. I donā€™t mean to come on here and share something so negative, I just donā€™t have anywhere else to put it and itā€™s gnawing at me.
