Well I guess Iā€™m my motherā€™s child because I now have a candle I never plan on burning. It feels so defiant. The fairy candle is my friend now. I will age, but she will not

This is a rose soy candle that I bought in France. Itā€™s pink and itā€™s small. Every time I burn it, I use those moments to mourn something until the wax has melted evenly. When my cat died, I lit it for about seven minutes and used that moment to let him pass. But even on New Years Eve a few years back, it felt right to let go of the year that way. While the flame and the melting wax helps me let go, using the candleā€™s pretty metal and ceramic cup will help me keep everything Iā€™ve mourned alive. Because the candle is so small, each time I burn it itā€˜s very special.

The superstition is this: on the first day of the month, one is supposed to say ā€œRabbit, rabbitā€ to ensure a month of good luck. I adore this superstition, like making a circle of protective salt around you for the entire 28, 30, or 31 days of a month. in theory, itā€™s supposed to be the first words you utter on that 1st day, but I make my life easier by just making sure I say it at some point during the day. I love superstitions, but I like also throwing in a bit of my own luck in there. So say ā€œrabbit, rabbit,ā€ why donā€™t ya? Iā€™ll say it several extra times in honor of those who read this a little later on.

Yes I work in a cemetery. My favorite part is saying hello to the graves. Judy Garland, Johnny Ramone, Rudolph Valentino, Pee-wee Herman. Honestly, itā€™s a sweet tribute being around them. I make it a point to visit cemeteries in most cities I visit, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Itā€™s one of my top two.
