this novel healed me from my reading slump, I wrote about it in depth this week and linked it but I cannot stop thinking about it. sisterhood, midwest, how it feels to be a girl in the world, yearning, Doritos. recommend!!!
i read this on new years day and january second and every time i picked it up i stopped crying. i was crying a lot those two days so i knew i was on to something special. more fiction should also be recipe books because all of the characters have to eat something sometime.
This book is an important read for kind souls everywhere. More so now than ever before I’ve felt lost and far away from myself. Jenny always brings me home. She’s sweet and wild and warm and honest and when I cry on the pages we cry together. It’s also a breeze to read between the 10 pages of Proust I can hardly handle per day.
I’ve been in a reading slump and I feel like short stories always pull me out of it. Moshfegh’s collection here is NASTY! I love her evident distaste for basically everyone and everything lol. Big fan of her writing style and she makes me want to write too.
go to your local library‘s website or download the app. then search for a book you really want to read. then put it on hold. it feels like online shopping but it’s free. in a few days or weeks you'll get a cute text message or email that your book is ready to pick up and you’ll get to say hello to your local librarians and procure a new (to you) book which also feels like free shopping. the most functional part of our government ily public libraries
i usually find myself in reading ruts when i’m taking classes and being assigned books or when i’m trying to keep up with new releases and the “smart” books that are usually dense and long. i can usually get myself out of this rut by picking out a book that looks fun to me, like a book set on a beach or something I loved in middle school. I’m reading From The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler right now and it’s just FUN!!! I also am very much not someone who feels like they have to finish a book. Life is too short. I think that helps!
