Finding a gym with a quality pool was a necessity for me. When I swim I am able to shut the world out in a way that doesn’t seem possible during strength training or regular cardio. Hell, I only feel like I can get through my daily stairmaster routine by distracting myself with videos while simultaneously playing a card game on my phone. (Yes, I know I’m cooked.) Anyways, with swimming I don’t need anything. I just need to focus on my breath and the rhythmic motions of my body - the physical exertion doesn’t distract me. My mind and body are truly in sync when I swim.

I also am into lap swimming after stopping in high school! It’s beautiful quiet screenfree time. Just mind, breath, stroke, water. Also love that my weight feels different, like I’m back in the womb.

salad_valet I agree, I also like to dive a little deeper than I need to when i’m kicking off from the deep end, to just enjoy the stillness below the surface for a moment

it's good exercise but also meditative because all you have are your thoughts, especially meditative since I bought ear plugs (my ears always let water in...), I get to think through a new topic every week - or just focus on clearing my mind if needed. It's relaxing and I sleep like a baby afterwards. I go once a week after work and it makes me feel proud and also comfy. I smell like chlorine and have goggle rings around my eyes while sitting on the train home eating a snack feeling incredible!!!!!!!

at the rec center, at the y, at free outdoor pools like the mccarren park pool… it’s so fulfilling to move your body in a way that doesn’t feel punishing because the water is truly carrying you and you are water!!! any time I find myself working too hard / tiring myself out, I let myself float 10% more and it’s also a therapy session in that way

I’ve been doing intense cardio consisting of stairmaster (workout stats pictured) and swimming laps (not pictured) for about two months and I am seeing results at a pace that I thought were previously unrealistic. I probably can’t give all credit to cardio alone however because I also have gotten much stricter about counting calories and eating quality foods.
