Tattoos are one the few things you can have with you for the rest of your life. Its a life long commitment and I hope they still look cool when I’m buried.

I have lots and generally stopped overthinking them after my first one. In theory, permanently marking your body is seen as an eternal commitment that carries a ton of weight, but I’ve really benefitted from flipping that on its head and using tattoos as a practice to remind myself of the impermanence of life and of my body (we’re all going to die :)). Now I give them to myself with needles from amazon, I let friends tattoo me, I get them on a whim when I’m traveling. I think a lot of people are scared of carrying physical markers of all the different people they’ve been (myself included), but I think doing so is actually a great practice in self acceptance—carrying all those versions of you, on you, all the time, baring them for others to see. The ones I got 4 years ago that I wouldnt get today don’t bother me even though I no longer resonate with them; they’re a personal history of sorts. And because of the whole death thing, all tattoos are temporary :)

When thinking about tattoos, it is difficult to decide what I want since they all look cool and my style changes so often and everything is so cool and awesome. I’ve thought of a possible solution, which is: get tattoos based on my history and things that have shaped me as a person. Since history is in the past, it never changes, and I have to accept it whether it’s ink on my body or not. I’m taking inspiration from Polynesian culture here.

i think i have 9 at this point? honestly babe you only get one body during your time on earth so you might as well do what you want with it. have a favorite band? get a symbol of them put on your body forever. a favorite painting? steal that shit and put it on your arm. none of mine have very deep meaning but that’s okay because i like them. i just think they look neat! that’s how you decide, just take up all the space on your skin with shit you think looks cool. the pain depends on the part of the body; i think my most painful was my thigh and my least painful was probably the back of my calf. also color tats hurt a bit more than black so be conscious of that. and i would definitely get another. they’re absolutely addicting.

I just saw someone say “who says true love can’t be fleeting?” And it honestly put what I view as “love” into a new perspective. That puppy love you get for a few weeks with someone before it fizzles out or whatever is still love! I had an extremely loving friendship with a person years ago,I’d had known them for 10 years before we had a falling out and I haven’t seen them since. That relationship was still love though, and the impact it had on my life will never go away.
