These books expertly combine genre vibes of mystery, science fiction, eldritch horror, espionage, and more, all wrapped in beautifully written, "literary" prose. And Vandermeer's clear affection for nature buoy's all of the above, containing some of the most lovely, evocative, and creative descriptions of plants, animals, and environments/ecosystems. Oh and Jeff just released a new Southern Reach trilogy prequel / sequel novel, Absolution. I'll be reading this after finishing a reread of the original trilogy (currently on the second book Authority). Looking forward to giving Acceptance another shot, as it was the weakest (or least accessible to me) of the three when I first read them years ago.

Devoured the audiobooks recently, strongly recommend. the movie annihilation is based on the first book and is a good indication of the vibe but obv the books are much deeper and richer and very rewarding.

It is at times quiet and hypnotizing, but also intense and dissonant, strange and haunting. It is audacious and unexpected, with a diverse yet cohesive set of sounds / instrumentation, starting with the delicately beautiful "Futile Devices" and ending with the epic 25+ minute "Impossible Soul". And the inspiration for the album is fascinating, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Age_of_Adz If you haven't heard or haven't listened in a while, give it a spin! 🤘😘
