Uhhhhh ever heard of it? Listen. Get yourself a cheap-ass roll of satin ribbon on Amazon in whatever color sparks joy for you. I like powder blues and Tiffany blues, and very buttery yellows. Sometimes extremely chunky white yarn. Then the next time you are bringing flowers to someone, which should be the next time you are seeing someone, you just cut a generous bit of ribbon off, ball it up in your pocket, then when you buy the flowers take off all the plastic packaging and rubber bands and tie it with the ribbon. It makes a WORLD of difference. Trust me. Ribbon (or yarn) (or, hell, twine for all I care) is the thoughtful, personal touch that makes a 9.99 bouquet from the bodega look like a $40 arrangement from a florist.

I imagine a piece of ribbon being carried by the wind. seemingly delicate, but strong when facing pressure. can falter without proper support (knot). a resounding eagerness to make others happy (gifts, compliments). rings of happy memories from holidays. longs for the girlhood of me, my mother, and my grandmother - to be tied around their hair just one more time.

If you’re crafty or have any type of office supplies I use mine for paper clips, binder clips, tacks, sewing pins, buttons. You could use shorter/wider ones for storing jewelry since air tight containers are best from keeping pieces from tarnishing or getting a patina anyway (it’ll slow that from happening anyway). If you have cute or unique looking jars use them as bud vases for some flowers on bookshelves or a vanity. You could use them to collect things like sand/seashells/rocks from traveling and roadtrips. You could start a change jar to put all your change from things throughout the year in and add it up at the end of the year.

there is something so deeply intimate about knowing a person’s penmanship. you could know someone for years even but not know what their handwriting looks like. i had a coworker (turned friend) at my old job tell me how when she misses me she looks at the post-it with the passwords i had written for my work accounts. (sharing mine here bc in my head i’m friends with everyone who comes across this post. pi.fyi community has gotten me through some tough times last year and i love learning new things through people’s recs here!!)
