Actually I have another hater take. Sorry but I do judge you if you use this (or any other AI chat bot because apparently there are others?) and treat it as a source of truth.....very strange behavior. I thought we all thought it was dumb but I now hear people reference it's use in common conversation/at work as if it's not weird? Why are you all feeding the beast? Can we please use our brains? Use it or lose it, baby!

i work in an office setting and our leadership extremely relies on ai (basic emails, flyers, questions she can google,etc.). Publicly talks about it which is what I find the most surprising. At least carry that shame with you lol

I have a massive dislike of most AI LLM’s nowadays, but as someone who works in IT and has to maintain knowledge of Linux/Java/Python/PowerShell I have to push back a small bit. Despite the numerous ethical problems, megalomaniacal CEO’s and bad threat actors, there is some use for LLM’s like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek. The ONLY thing I have ever used ChatGPT for is coding validation, in other words, Will the script I’ve written run correctly? For example I was configuring Xowa on my MacBook and needed to make sure this JS script would run: java -Xmx256m -d32 -XstartOnFirstThread -jar /Users/Downloads/User/xowa/xowa_macosx_64.jar ChatGPT found the issues and provided resolutions that you really can’t find unless you have a substantial knowledge of Java. I think of it as a way to check my work, not some magical thing that can tell me the answers of everything and anything.

wakeuplmd totally! I think there's helpful uses for it. As a graphic designer there are a few AI-assisted Photoshop tools that exist now that really helps with workflow (removing or extending backgrounds, for instance). My real issue just comes when people use it as a search engine or as way to write something. I just think it's lazy! Even for brainstorming I find it problematic—you narrow in too quickly instead of encountering all the things that aren't quite right but make your pursuit richer in the long run. Idk, I just think we lose a lot when we use a cheat code that gets us *right to the point* of something. Like, if people can't write an email without the assistance of one of these things I'm like....concerned....lol.

I have tried to be really, really patient with a few specific people I have spoken to who are CONVINCED that these AI programmes are actually more useful than google for certain things - one I hear a lot is providing a brief summary of a wide range of articles on a given topic. But everyone who has talked to me about this has completely failed to convince me: 1) that doing this is better than googling it 2) that the AI is even fit for the purpose they're suggesting using it for 3) that it is worth the horrendous environmental impact of even the most basic requests There are useful applications for AI that can genuinely be beneficial, but NONE of them are the "flashy" replacements for creativity and critical thinking that get the most buzz, and certainly none of the popular slop machines like ChatGPT are capable of doing the actually useful stuff.

capybarareverie totally! I think there’s a lot that this powerful automation can assist with. I’m not smart enough to know them but I assume it’s a lot of behind the scene things: not meant for unfettered use by, like, all of humanity lol. also the promise of automation = less work is a proven lie sooooooo idk, all bs to moi!

What surprises me the most is people using AI for their work and studies. Like choosing their method of career execution!

sniffle AGREE. I gotta say, as a graphic designer, I do think it’s pretty sweet that I don’t have to spend significant time removing the background from an image anymore. That’s pretty sick. But the image generating…it’s bad! And stock websites are now FULL of ai generated imagery. I’d rather go back to fully manual editing instead of having to deal with all the shortcomings. I take serious issue with it for copy writing, too. Like oh my god if you talk to the robot they you will sound like a robot. also…why are you assisting in the exact thing that people are saying could replace you? It’s weird? lol

Microsoft releasing a report about how frequent AI use wrecks your cognition should be the reddest of flags, but I don’t think it’s changing anything: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/uploads/prod/2025/01/lee_2025_ai_critical_thinking_survey.pdf

It’s honestly concerning? It’s crazy that the people who go the hardest for it seem to barely have any awareness of how it actually works. My coworker (who never stops talking about it) asked me for help because the formula it gave her wasn’t working, and it was completely wrong. I’ve heard people reference using it for legal advice??? I went to one of those presentation parties recently and one of the attendees said she had it write stuff for her, like whyyy are you cheating at the optional fun activity?

nah i feel this huge!! im like a few years out of ad school and i feel like the kids who are in it right now literally don’t have any skills because they just pop everything they want into adobe firefly and get an image right away. i spent all nighters comping images and am often complimented for the quality of my work, AI just feels so lazy and mistake ridden i really don’t like being ~persuaded~ to check it out

pastramimami don’t even get me started on the lack of aesthetic sense this is all breeding! its awful garbage and there is already _so_ much of it. I’m not too worried about it over taking actual artists or human creativity (because it can’t) but I am disturbed by the amount of people that 1) think it can and 2) seem to want it to

I know people are going to be using it a lot maybe for dumb menial stuff, but I have not had a moment where it felt compellingly as though it was going to “take over”. Everybody I’ve seen who has made that argument is somehow relying on it to be true, so I can’t trust them. I immediately judge anybody who tells me they use chatGPT for something related to their work. And I don’t think I’m being unfair. At best, something like chatGPT is a tool that people can use for brainstorming, but directly using chatGPT output is just pathetic to me. I dunno.

it still baffles me that there are people out there who heavily rely on chatgpt, maybe even have fully replaced google, to make the decisions for them. idk which is worse using chatgpt or tiktok as a search engine bc what the actual fuck ?? 😭

whenever I hear someone say “I asked ChatGPT” it pisses me off because it tells me they are too lazy to read through google search results or potentially reading a longer article for an answer. pleassseeeee people are literally destroying their ability to think. Also, using chatgpt eliminates the possibility of going down a Wikipedia rabbit hole which is Delightful and a great way to spend an afternoon while still learning and being curious about the world👍
