a culmination point across the number of genres the idol has covered throughout her career, along with some new ones, making for a glitzy, all-encompassing debut
i think one of the more frustrating things about music in 2020 was how much of a gamble it was. on the one hand, bc a lot of bigger artists held off on their releases, smaller artists got their time to shine. but i also feel like it meant a lot of great projects got buried or thrown to the wayside. this, i feel, is one of the latter
first of all, one of the most underrated discographies in kpop. a lot of artists in this genre try to pull of the "jack of all trades" thing with multiple genres, while being much more befitting of the title "master of none". chungha is one of the few people who actually IS a jack of all trades. she's such a genre chameleon. most people would see that in her various dance performances, styles and concepts, but she's also that way in terms of vocal performance. she has such an intentionality that comes through whether you're watching or listening. like the feeling of the choreography carries through her vocals, it's like her voice is dancing in the booth
there's truly something here for everybody. this lp is divided into 4 "sides" and it does actually feel like distinct vibes across the album. this isn't necessarily unheard of in kpop albums, but often it's hard for artists to maintain album cohesion whilst exploring all these genres. this shit is light work for ms annie. masquerade, play, everybody has, bother me, stay tonight, lemon, demente, DREAM OF YOU. just stun
