The perfect comfort movie. I’ve seen it countless times and I will watch it countless more over my lifetime. Two american surfers travel the globe to follow the summer season through the hemispheres to find waves never before ridden. It’s a tight 92 minute documentary complete with jangly surf rock, narration from a guy that sounds like MLB commentator from the ’50s, and Tasty Waves. The anthropological aspect local native fishermen witnessing the act of surfing for the first time is also really sick, they even hold a surf camp for some little Ghanaian kids.

Is my favourite documentary in the world. Stylishly directed in black and white by Bennett Miller (best known for Capote and Moneyball), it circles around the magnificently exuberant existence of the playwright turned apple city tour guide Timothy "Speed" Levitch as he muses on the city of NY on and off his double decker bus. I have a tendency to let my frustrations of the world to clench my muscles up and this is the film equivalent of a lump of mdma to melt my heart back open again with every rewatch. A poet can have an intense love affair with a bridge and a great poet can word it in a way that convinces you that they're not mad; or that even if they are, they are mad in the exact way life is supposed to be experienced in the first place. A must-see for anyone who holds a warm spot in their heart for the insomniac city, or at least what it once could be through the eyes of an intensely intuned romantic eccentric.

a wonderful documentary about a relatively untouched island strip off the coast of Canada where horses roam free and there's no one to govern or be governed. it's visually captivating - documenting the unique landscapes and characters of the island. powdery whites, blush pinks, soothing greens. it was shot on 16mm film and the director used experimental development techniques, developing the film in the island's seaweed, water, and sand to provide additional texture and biomarkers to the film. if you're in the mood for a mystical, scientific, soothing watch, i would highly recommend :) it's available on cbcgems if you're in canada!

my hunger for female approval and general vanity has prevented me from going down this route, but the appeal of being a perfect mysterious stranger does call to me occasionally. Kudos to all you anons

In my internal monologue I instinctively refer to myself as We instead of Me, most often when I’m planning out my day or creating mental to-do lists. e.g. “We’re out of eggs, gotta add that to the grocery list”, “ We’re going to get out of work at 11 and then meet So-and-so and do such-and-such” I obviously do not do this out loud in conversation, but in my head I often default to We instead of Me. (I hope this is not foreshadowing a future schizophrenia)
