I didn’t watch reality competition shows growing up. So I never understood the hype around Survivor or The Amazing Race. But let me tell you how HOOKED I’ve been watching reality competition shows as of lately. I got into the latest season of The Traitors because I’m such a fan of Gabby Windey. Yet my attention shifted when all of the contestants were hyping up the Survivor contestants, especially Boston Rob. I basically went down a rabbit hole about this guy being an iconic gamer and oh boy… I GET IT. The level of grit and tact needed is beyond me, and Boston Rob and Amber just gracefully do it on Survivor All-Stars. Also, they’re such a beautiful couple who are still together after 20 years and have 4 children! Even the most romantic storylines can happen in reality competition shows. Would I be able to handle being on a reality competition show? I think I can actually haha. But would I actually do it? Mhmmm no, I’ll stick to watching more reality competition series.

“isn’t that just a trashy reality tv show?” NO. reality tv yes but trashy absolutely not. Survivor is the ideal of the Genre all other shows strive towards. there is a reason that we are on season 47 (!!) right now and it’s still EXCELLENT jeff probst is the best most passionate host for a game show ever, he’s invested in what he does and in the game. the show is funny and entertaining and human and engaging. the show has been doing “social experiments” since before every reality show decided to call themselves “social experiments.” basic premise of the show is that players start out on a tribe where they are competing against another tribe (or tribes, depending on the season) in challenges. every episode the tribe that loses the “immunity challenge” has to vote someone out. THEN once the tribes are small enough, they “merge” and then everyone is on one big tribe and it becomes an individual game with individual immunity challenges. alliances from the early part of the season may stay or may not! it’s just the best reality show and it’s got heart and it’s got soul and it’s entertaining as hell. please watch it. best seasons are probably Heroes vs Villains and Cagayan so that’s where i would start if i were you. you’ll be quoting jeff probst before you know it. i grew up on survivor and rediscovered my love for it as an adult and you all deserve to experience this, too.

So, it has come to my attention that Survivor, the island survival reality tv show, is IN right now. Which is fascinating to me, because I grew up watching Survivor with my mom. She has seen every single episode over the course of the show's 20+ years. I watched maybe 10ish years of them with her. This show is great for some reason, always has been. Go ahead, watch a season or two. I associate this Heroes vs. Villains season with the most carefree part of my childhood.

I’ve had a diary/journal ever since I was in 2nd grade (shoutouts to Amelia’s Notebook for sparking something in me). My journal is one of my most prized possessions. It’s my confidante, my source of inspiration, my friend. Journaling has always allowed me to unapologetically express myself. I’ve learned to embrace my voice through writing. I love when I read back on past journal entries and be like, ‘Damn I wrote this?! This is poetry.’

I haven’t baked in so long, so getting back into it was much needed. It challenges me to slow down and practice a sense of mindfulness as I’m measuring the necessary ingredients, setting the oven at the exact temperature, and getting the right texture. I also get so much joy when others enjoy my baked goods! Like it’s such an honor that this cookie made your tummy happy haha.
