I had a nostalgia flashback a few days ago, and it felt like I was still there at my aunt and uncle's house in Middleton, Massachusetts playing this for the first time. I remembered the view out the window, sitting on the hardwood floor, and the menu music playing out of the huge rear-projection TV set (I'll be able to press play on that song in my brain at any given moment for the rest of my life.) I had never really had a flashback like this before, but I got really emotional. This week has personally been one of the hardest for me in a long time, and in that moment, I wanted to be back there so badly when everything was so much easier.

i'm fairly new to adulthood - 19, full-time college student, part-time elementary teacher's aide - one of the things i've loved the most about my job was hearing about the student's interests, and it made me nostalgic for the interests i used to have. a few weeks ago, Xbox was having it's ~80%-off sale, and i noticed they had a few of my childhood games for like $8-$10, so now for the past few days, all i've been playing is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. i just finished the main questline yesterday, and the whole thing was a blast. it really showed me how art such as that can affect people's lives, it was made with a lot of love, and that's apparent from the gameplay. it's also shown me how i've grown, where now i'm challenging myself to do something i never could - unlock each hero, but especially, unlock Deadpool.

Sometimes remembering hurts. Sometimes remembering helps. I recommend it anyway. Remember 2009? Remember narwhals, narwhals, swimmin' in the ocean? Remember Snape, Snape, Severus Snape. Snape, Snape, Severus Snape? Remember playing Nintendogs under your sheets on your DS on a rainy night in 2007 or playing Minecraft on a cool Autumn night while your parents fought downstairs in 2012? We can never go back, but we can try through simulation and emulation. Remember making images with Microsoft paint and word art and Kid Pix, you can use them again now! Try beating The Impossible Quiz , taking care of Nintendogs, creating a penguin, building a city, playing my personal favorite GameBoy Advance Game, or finding your own childhood games memories to play again using Internet Archive and other emulation services, tools and resources.

not too long ago, I made a list going of all the PC games I could recall playing as a kid. I wanted to relive those precious afternoons I spent losing track of time in the computer lab of my public library. I recently found one of my favs, Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside (1996) on Steam. playing it as an adult brought me so much joy, I can't even tell you. and the reviews on Steam made me smile so much, especially the one below (hilarious). I also realized that Pajama Sam is voiced by Pamela Adlon (Spinelli Recess, Bobby King of the Hill, etc.) which is cool af. so go find those games you used to play & travel back in time! I was shocked with how much I remembered. plus there's nothing like hearing those 90's sound FX, they just don't make em like that anymore. :')
