my grandad would play this song on the guitar constantly when i was a small child until i learned the lyrics and was able to sing along with him. it was only a couple of years ago that i discovered it on spotify, all these years i’ve believed it was his own original song

played this for my family because i thought i had heard this growing up, none of them knew it. did i hear this for the first time when spotify put it in a playlist for me? surely not. it’s so hard to know whether or not you’ve found music organically these days or just through instagram reels, especially when you can’t trust your own memory 😞😞

My mom used to play this song (Byrds) all of the time I remember as a kid- it was just such a positive, pleasant song to have on. I was too young of course to really understand/comprehend the Dylan lyrics, but the chorus “Hey Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me”, at least, looking back on it now (the only lyrics I remember ha) I think kind of primed my young mind to really want to explore and be curious about the world and the stories people have to tell.

I have had this song circling around my brain for the past few days. I played it this morning while my kids got ready for school and my 7 year old really dug it. I’m not that old, but my grandparents and parents were all really into music and it reminds me of them and being a kid, awed by my elders.
