This sculpture is in SLAM’s permanent collection and they recently put it on display after a long time in storage She’s my favorite artist, and you can look at this piece for an hour and it keeps feeling fresh, like you never get to the bottom of understanding it. I like her work (and this piece in particular) because it’s emotionally rich. To me it embodies paradoxes like being both playful and somber, lively and elegiac, busy but unified, individual but collective, primal but contemporary, geometric and organic, abstract yet figurative, dissonant and harmonious, pattern and noise, cheeky and serious, quiet and commanding. Go spend some time with her.

australian artist doing camera-less photography to create stunning works using roadkill, chemical reactions and natural elements on photosensitive surfaces. had so much trouble choosing which piece to showcase here bc not only is all her work beautiful but it makes me so, so emotional. if you ever have the pleasure of seeing her work in person, the titles read like poetry and are often written in graphite on the piece itself. for some reason, that’s really impactful to me. my favorite part is she gives the animals proper burials after they’ve served their purpose, giving them a sense of dignity. she often leaves traces of the animal’s blood in the work and the cortisol from their bodies sometimes has unique reactions to the photosensitive chemicals. the environment and it’s relationship to human infrastructure is a topic very near and dear to my heart so her artwork has left an immense impression on me. so thankful to live in a time where i can see stuff like this.

lately all i've been listening to is arthur russell. he was a cellist, composer and producer who wrote everything from folk to pop to disco. his own personal music was largely undiscovered in his lifetime as he was a notorious perfectionist who only released two albums underneath his own name while he was alive, but he collaborated with talking heads, dinosaur l, allen ginsberg and more in his capacity as producer. your motion says is my favourite song. what a fabulous artist !!
ravioli, ravioli, ravioli! a perfect word, bounces off the tongue, feels smooth and sharp and delicious to say
