are so comforting and special. the nyt cooking app is nice but nothing will ever touch cooking with a book open on your counter. get those pages messy and mark the recipes up with notes ! much more enjoyable than tapping your phone with food-covered hands to keep it unlocked.
buy more mugs. hang up your pots and pans.

The pages of my favourite recipes are always fucked up (well loved)! I annotate as I go so I can actually remember what went wrong last time/what worked/future mods. If I wing a dish and it turns out really well, I write it down. All this note taking has made me a much better + more intentional cook. When I was relying more on digital recipes, I was simply losing my thoughts and ideas to the ether.
We live in the future! Why would I scroll on my phone if I don’t have to?

I admittedly have a lot of pet peeves, but leading the pack is online recipes of any stripe. Food blog, bon apetit post, tiktok caption…they're all a nightmare, and I hate them. I ✨hate✨ them!!! Who wants to click out of a half dozen pop up ads with messy hands and stuff going on the stove? Who is that experience for?? Especially when nearly every recipe you could ever hope to need or imagine already exists in libraries and thrift stores (both of which offer both cookbooks and food magazines!).
that being said… I’m not above referencing Smitten Kitchen or Sally’s or Modern Proper. But i’ve taken to physically writing down those recipes ahead of time, and it’s amazing how much it improves the cooking/baking experience both in terms of easy reference and also in the way it helps me mentally think through the process.
I recommend physical recipes!!!

orange juice americanos are the best form of refreshing coffee. i made mine with fresh squeezed blood orange juice and japanese iced coffee using a v60 pourover. juicy and delicious and beautiful ! i wish american cafes sold orange juice americanos
