Really beautiful performance featuring analog synths, flowers, recordings of birds, cheap $2 record machine microphones and the beautiful musicality of one of Gen X's greatest and oddest songwriters.

The lore behind the song & this performance always gives me chills. Such an insane performance and such a great moment with the stare off. Loved this YouTube comment: “This dynamic is incredible. She's absolutely calling him out even after all these years. He takes it. He absolutely let's her nail him with her lyrics. He stares straight back at her and there's SO many unsaid things that pass between them. She walks towards him and he leans forward to encourage her. He knows it's her therapy and he fully supports her and it's an awesome effect. Equal parts sorrow, ferocity, love, respect...”

Composing a short film about childhood at the moment and I’ve been leaning heavily on this Casio PT-1 keyboard I picked up at a flea market in Barcelona. They were manufactured starting in 1985 as a simpler alternative to Casio’s LV-1, hailed to be the first commercially available synth. Anyway love this sound it’s so tactile without feeling too boxy, I’ve really enjoyed playing it through my Tascam 414 as a preamp.

I recently plugged in this Mythical Overdrive, one of my favorite pedals, and heard nothing but a sharp hiss. These Mythical Overdrives are all made by hand and built by their creator, he currently doesn’t offer a repair service. From what I understand these Klon style circuits are pretty simple but I opened the pedal and found an impressive array of transistors, resistors, and parts I can’t begin to understand. I want to become competent enough to repair these kinds of circuits that I rely on so heavily so I’m beginning a soldering and pedal repair journey. Beyond music, I think it’s important to understand the tools you use well enough to repair them. I’ll document it here, cheers PI.
