Guillermo del Toro changed my life with his debut film “Cronos.” It was my first introduction to the world of horror fantasy, and it changed everything for me. It made me appreciate the beauty in darkness so much that I even started a femme horror podcast in his honor!🌸🩸
It’s a haunting, beautiful film about a grandfather who discovers a mysterious device that grants him immortality but at a terrible cost. A dark, poetic take on the fear of death and the price of living forever. If you haven’t seen it, you need to.

Tod Browning’s Freaks (1932) — watched this on TCM the morning before my like tenth birthday party and it rocked my world forever… sad and disturbing
The Others (2001) — gorgeous gothic atmospheric soooo creepy and Nicole Kidman is a vision
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) — details the last days of a troubled beautiful teenage girl named Laura Palmer… heartbreaking examination of traumatic cycles and evil forces. I would recommend that you watch the show first though 🤓
Barbarian (2022) — this goes against like everything you said you wanted but I have to put it on here because it’s so scary and expertly paced and filled me with dread but it’s also hilarious! It has to be my favorite recently released horror movie

i don’t think i will ever get over this movie. i’ve already seen it twice in theatres and i cried and was scared and was full of joy. i love gothic horror more than anything else. i love beautiful visuals and some weird little fucked up things happening. i love having the ability to think critically and analyze movies, especially ones with such powerful themes and amazing metaphors/representations like this one. eggers you will always be famous

My all-time favorite film is Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue. No other movie goes deep into avatars, alter egos, and the unraveling of one’s identity after stepping into the dark side of entertainment quite like this one. It’s beautiful and incredibly dark. It feels especially relevant in today’s digital age.
