when anyone asks me to put them onto an artist, the only answer i can ever give is nourished by time. whenever i canā€™t figure out what kind of music i want to listen to, i play nourished by time and itā€™s just the right sound for any mood iā€™m in. i havenā€™t found any other artist with a similar vibe/ sound (but pls PLS enlighten me if there are any!!!) soap party is my fav song of his and i donā€™t think i could ever get bored of it. erotic probiotic 2 is one of those albums that i didn't even have to consider buying when i saw it on vinyl, it was straight in my hand. 100/10 i dig marcus brown šŸ™

as the years go by i realized how much this dude has inspired me. somehow his songs captures the essence of night time, syrupy mysterious nocturnal grooves. itā€™s hard to recommend a proper entry point into his catalogue too, because thereā€™s so much and to me itā€™s all good. though i always fall back on his solo records ā€œbete noirā€ & ā€œboys & girls.ā€ it has the super hit ā€œslave to loveā€ obviously - but the other tracks are just as juicy - ā€œwindsweptā€œ is a personal fav. each song features a different heavy hitter guitarist from the era too - which is why iā€™m so obsessed with it. heā€™s like a sweaty laid back lounge singer serenading you at 3AM, meanwhile these guitarists are just shredding behind him. last saturday, i played a show and to get myself in the zone, i popped on ā€œboys & girlsā€ on the drive over. when i finished my set, a friend asked about the drum machine in one song and i said i took a cue from ferry and he recommended his 2010 record ā€œolympiaā€ which i somehow had never heard and now iā€™m currently obsessed with it. when i was packing up my gear the dj just put on another track of his. the next day at work, to sustain my post-show high i put on roxy music, and a customer i usually never talk to wound up sticking around telling me how much they love him. anyways i love that heā€˜s kind of my spirit guide following me around at the moment and highly recommend doing a deep dive into his world if you havenā€™t done so alreadyā€¦

Why Lawd by NxWorries: I can't believe we got a new NxWorries album. We are so blessed omg TIMELESS by KAYTRANADA: someone book me to DJ a rooftop pool ASAP just so I can play this album The Year I Turned 21 by Ayra Starr: she's so damn talented and this is a great coming of age album Dark Times by Vince Staples: being a fan of an artist for a decade and watching them mature and elevate their creativity is beautiful ngl

I know all these other recs were calming and mindful, but I thought I would put this out there cause Iā€™m crazy obsessed. Iā€™ve been his BIGGEST fan for a couple of years now, and knowing thereā€™s more music coming up is the light of my life. If you have a minute, go listen to his new song basic being basic. If you have more than just a minute I would recommend listening to his other albums twenty twenty, and decide. On a broader note, go find new music! A fresh playlist always cheers me up.

I am a background music girl through and THROUGH! I also used to religiously listen to Chopin but now I listen to tonnes more instrumental music; Dev Hynes' scores for Queen & Slim and We Are Who We Are are so addictive to me and so unique, I love listening to them while studying. Piero Piccioni is a composer that made scores for old Italian films and the Camille score and Amore mio aiutami score are my favs for studying when it's sunny. I'm seconding the other reply left to this q. Whenever I'm doing the most boring work and I have no motivation I shuffle the Succession soundtrack and pretend that what I'm doing is super important and going to save the world. Berlioz is an artist I listen to exclusively when I'm studying late. Jazz is the perfect vibe for late night studying but sometimes I just want to fall asleep so jazz-house is perfect because it keeps me awake enough. Hiroshi Yoshimura's Surround album is a lot more ambient than my other recs and can put you to sleep if you listen late BUT is very calming and gorgeous and runs almost no risk of being distracting. Mac DeMarco has a whole 9hr album of 90% instrumentals that I'll listen to sometimes. Low-key also drum and bass... this is verrrrry hit or miss I'm aware. I can only listen in certain circumstances but sometimes when I need to do a lot of work quickly I'll just slap on an instrumental drum and bass playlist and hammer it out. Listened to Entanglements by Alix Perez for a while last year, but usually just find a playlist. Dnb tends to feature samples with words but I don't find them distracting typically as they're not at the forefront of the mix. I also find that if I listen to music in a language I don't understand, the lyrics don't distract me as much. I've been listening to Eliana Pittman's self-titled album recently while studying but this could potentially apply to any album. OMG okay that's all I have. I feel insane.
