Before you guys ask, yes I’ve been doing the morning pages from “The Artist’s Way” LOL Real talk though, the structure of the book has been super helpful in structuring my own creative process, and one of the best possible things it’s done for me so far is to learn how to write and create, even when you’re “not in the mood” or you’re mentally blocked. On the days I can’t think of shit, I just start rambling about gossip and chairs and people watching (or whatever misc thing is on your mind) and all of a sudden a new project idea hit me out of some random association in my brain from years ago that I never touched til now Anyway yeah, GO WRITE AND CREATE EVEN IF YOU DONT FEEL LIKE IT bc you’ll be surprised at what finds you!!!

This might be obvious, but there are tons of writing prompts out there, and if you commit to doing them regularly, even if they're short, you'll start getting your flow back. (If anyone knows a good source, add it below!) It's nice to have the choice of topic made for you, so you don't end up feeling attached to much about it, although you might surprise yourself with what you come up with. I started a weekly virtual group a while back to do exercises as a communal accountability thing, and that really got me excited about writing again. Morning pages were also something mentioned here a while ago. Basically anything that gets you into the technical habit of writing, so when you want to write about something specific, you'll be practiced and ready! I have found that inspiration has an easier time breaking through to the page when I'm not as rusty. Also, unless you want to submit a piece to a publication that fits a certain guideline, there are no rules. The fewer boxes you try to fit yourself into, the easier it flows!

There’s a chart I added below that’s helped me become an overall better creative. Inspiration comes and goes and often times is so flimsy that you can’t even trust it once it arrives! But being in the habit of creating breeds consistency. Creating for the sake of creating helps you develop a more efficient system + allows you understand yourself better. What happens when you create by habit is that eventually inspiration will hit and when it does you’ll have been expecting it and prepared for it. An inspired moment combined with a system built on habit breeds amazing, truly inspired works of genius. As someone who picked up writing two months ago and is now doing 2-3 articles a week for a newsletter, I’ve learned that I have to write regardless of whether inspiration is there or not. And when I do that, I often find myself getting inspired in the process of habit. Final thought is that someone once told me creativity ebbs and flows and to get the good ideas out you need to release the bad ones. This means you have to create over and over and over to push out the crap and get to the gold. This only happens if you get into a habit of creating. Hope this helps!

currently working through the artist’s way, and morning pages have quickly become a fav. It’s a steam-of-thought/get everything on the page daily habit. I find it’s great to just get the momentum going if I want to work but I’m stuck on what to do (you can even think through this conflict on the page and brainstorm solutions or figure out why you don’t feel like it). I like to also look through stuff I wrote previously if I had any good ideas I didn’t know what to do with at the time.

I have to disagree with the people who say that we need to “stay” and “fight“ for IG to be a better platform because in actuality, it’s our presence and engagement that gives them data, and therefore money. As long as they have those 2 things, they make their bottom line and won’t really care about its users desires unless they’re making a move for the optics. If we REALLY want to hold them accountable, we need to impact the money they make, which means permanently deleting or marking your account as inactive & never coming back. They’ll only care if they’re bleeding money— so make them bleed.

As someone who has terrible object permanence and can NEVER remember the existence of something if I can't see it (this includes objects AND goals), it was quite literally the best way to keep awareness of my long term goals, even when life started falling apart and getting hectic. At the end of the year I always look at my vision board and realize that I genuinely fulfilled a good majority of the goals on there, and it's so sweet Always keep your eyes on the prize yall and always dare to dream !!!
