I LOVE reality television!!!! I especially love reality TV from the mid-2000s – it has a sort of unpolished rawness and grubby-handed gold-rush ethos that elevates it far beyond whatever Netflix is pumping out today. The great thing about British reality TV is that all of it looks like it’s from the early 2000s. The people are uglier, the camera quality is shittier, the vibe is weirder, and the stakes have never been lower. My only rule around these is to watch them with a friend because otherwise it actually does veer into pathetic territory. I like I Wanna Marry Harry, 100% Hotter, My Hotter Half, and Boy Meets Boy.

i have been a long-time watcher of this ridiculous show, and LI UK combined with Ru Paul's Drag Race really helped me get through covid times in 2020/21 in general.
this summer, i have been watching the USA franchise on the urging of a friend. it's CRAZY and chaotic and entertaining, and for a while nothing seemed to be happening in the UK version in comparison. But i've come to realize the USA version genuinely stresses me out. i'm american, but i hate the way americans act and communicate as a generalized/homogeneous whole. i love the brits and their self-deprecating, cultural-specific gender expectations and slower mode of moving. it's still toxic ofc but i can distance myself from it and tell myself i will not encounter men like this because they have a way different accent (pleasant delusion!).....LI UK, you are my first true reality tv love, and i'm sorry i ever doubted you

I’m a sucker for a dating show, but tbh I have only played around with the shows that Netflix offers (ie Too Hot To Handle, Love is Blind, etc).
I CANNOT believe that I never experienced Love Island before, the stakes are REAL, the drama is REAL, the people are REAL. Everything feels so genuine, the people are annoying and over dramatic, yes, but that’s what MAKES the show.

I didn’t watch reality competition shows growing up. So I never understood the hype around Survivor or The Amazing Race. But let me tell you how HOOKED I’ve been watching reality competition shows as of lately.
I got into the latest season of The Traitors because I’m such a fan of Gabby Windey. Yet my attention shifted when all of the contestants were hyping up the Survivor contestants, especially Boston Rob. I basically went down a rabbit hole about this guy being an iconic gamer and oh boy… I GET IT. The level of grit and tact needed is beyond me, and Boston Rob and Amber just gracefully do it on Survivor All-Stars. Also, they’re such a beautiful couple who are still together after 20 years and have 4 children! Even the most romantic storylines can happen in reality competition shows.
Would I be able to handle being on a reality competition show? I think I can actually haha. But would I actually do it? Mhmmm no, I’ll stick to watching more reality competition series.

my job is being a writer which means i have a lot of free time and it also means that fun group events within my industry are rare. this opens up the wonderful world of being a GROUPIE -- a quasi-professional fan of the talents of others. i am not a comedian but through being a comedy groupie i have reaped the greatest benefit of the trade (funny friends) without ever having to set foot on an improv stage. i am not a musician but through being a music groupie i get to listen to my friends play beautiful songs and sometimes play with them for fun. i am not in fashion but being a fashion groupie means i get to hang out with impossibly stylish and knowledgeable women and sometimes try on beautiful clothes. being a master of none means you get to hang out with the masters of everything and it rocks. and all that is demanded of you is that you love and appreciate wonderful art -- DONT MIND IF I DO !
