Alex actually rec'd this jacket to me sometime back in 2018. For many reasons, it’s my most worn winter jacket over the past few years. Functionally, the jacket is really light, lined pockets keep your hands warm, and the water repellent material is what makes it really easy to slide on and off (which is probably why I always throw it on). Design wise, the jacket's lack of visible stitching is my favorite feature which is what makes it super sleek. Uniqlo shift the colors every season, but I found that the mens and womens are more or less the same jacket, except the women’s is slightly puffier. Sizing wise, they’re pretty much similar in my experience — so more color options!

TNF is a BFD in the outdoors space, but its real special sauce comes from translation. This checkered out, mohair-alike down parka mixes the brand’s heritage alpine DNA with the panache of retro suiting for a frickin’ 70s blow out. So much high-end outerwear is emotionless: black GORE shells, slick matte surfaces.  This is the opposite. It’s a lumpy, textural oversized parka that just reads “warm.” If you’re on the Beatniks and Goreckis wave, this is your heater.

I'm normal so I don't know what gorpy or arc or nf means but I got this in the classic yellow raincoat color (that doesn't seem to be available anymore?). Lightweight, breathable, good hood, zippers, pockets, wrists can cinch, very easily folded and packed up, has vents in the armpits if you live somewhere humid like I do. Keeps you dry. No notes. Perfect utilitarian raincoat and looks how you want it to look.

* Bought mine from an antique mall in the mountains in New Mexico for $20 and she’s so elegant and unique. It’s lined with the most realistic synthetic fur I’ve ever seen and is so incredibly warm but not bulky. I linked princess coat listings on 1stDibs. * I also have a J Crew perfect winter parka for when I don’t care about having dignity, like if I’m walking my dog or going out into the snow/sleet because it’s not floor length like my other coat and it’s waxed cotton. apparently it’s been discontinued but you can still find them on eBay or Poshmark or whatever. And probably any of their other parkas are good… * would also suggest layering heat retaining undershirts and pants like Uniqlo heat tech or the ones from 32 degrees + fleece-lined tights…

While everyone is raving about their trendy nonstick pans, I’m here to bring the spotlight back to cast iron cookware. There’s a huge stigma around how hard it is to take care of cast irons, but it’s really not bad! You just gotta keep using it, and over time, it basically becomes nonstick. This article has sent off a tangent, and now I am a proud owner of a well-seasoned cast iron pan and griddle.

I’ve never been to Disney as a kid and as I grew older I always felt like I was too old for it. I spontaneously tagged along with my family the day before they left and I think that was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and Avatar, and even as an adult I think I had the best week of my life and I felt like a kid again. I legitimately had real tears of joy on some of the rides. It’s never too late!

Antique shops have a special place in my heart because it reminds me of my childhood road trips. When I was little, I always thought antique shops were just useless junk. As I grew older, I’ve learned to appreciate the “junk” a bit more. Browsing through the aisles, they kind of feel like a time machine. My top things to look out for are vintage cameras, dutch ovens, and vintage porcelain.
