You ever search for something on eBay for so long it goes from unknown to unfindable to quasi-accepted to potentially washed - and thatā€™s when it finally pops up in your size? Anyhow, I'm 95% sure my man Brendan Timmins (beautiful furniture ā€“ Iā€™ve got two pieces!) put me back on to Jordanā€™s Two3 luxury line from the early 2000s, which looks pretty much exactly like the bizarro silhouette-experiment off-court fits so memorably documented on the defunctĀ  What the F*** Is Michael Jordan Wearing? blog.Anyhow, the Cavvy - a square-toe slip-on Vibram-soled loafer in which the elastic runs vertically right down the middle of the shoe. It is maybe the platonic ideal of viable square-toe loafers, with apologies to Martine Rose and the vendors of Orchard St. It is bizarre and tough, and screams for a flowy wide leg pant. The colorway with black leather and beige elastic really is something, but a few months ago, I finally found an all-black pair in my size, sort of, for a reasonable price. They look absurd and hurt my feet. Iā€™m so happy.

I love menswear. Like after my wife / daughter / truck, my 4th greatest love is menswear. And thereā€™s nothing better than menswear with lore. Which is why Iā€™ve hunted down and am in talks to put in a (lowball) offer on shoes with a fun history attached to them. Ugly? ā€” Yes. Culturally significant? ā€” No. Special to me? ā€” Extremely. Why wear just regular clothing when you can wear clothing that looks like it was formulated in a lab?

Ahhh, itā€™s been a while since a clothing ask has scratched that itch in the back of my head. I think the Vinnyā€™s take on a Mary Jane is 10/10. The black leather (brown looks nice too) + the chunky sole is an easy win. I canā€™t wait to wear these around with shorts and pink socks peeking through the opening. They also do an incredible Fisherman sandal. I know these might not be for everyone but Iā€™ve seen countless fits with these, including recent PI.FYI guest Aaron Levine, aka the menswear god himself. For the girls, yā€™all have cool choices that the boys donā€™t get to have šŸ˜” Look at these Mary Janeā€™s from Solovair in a gorgeous olive leather. Look at this Fisherman / Mary Jane hybrid from G. H. Bass. And the Sebago Angelinaā€™s that broke the internet seem to be going on sale on some sites. Itā€™s a weird shoe summerā„¢ļø and Iā€™m here for it.

plasticana gardana clog. the brooklyn man shoe. so damn comfy and goes with EVERYTHING. 10/10 my fav shoes of all time probably, have worn nearly every day the last 14 months anything from oree nyc, they basically make what i call doc martens for adults and most all their shoes have a lug sole with foam spacer. i have their infantry boots and morgan derbies. big fan timberland 3 eye mocs. theres some sick versions out there, i have a supreme collab pair with braided leather from 2022 that i still wear a good amount vintage gucci loafers or horatio beaufoy loafers. i like the lug sole ones most personally but all look great with basically anything. have personally owned horatioā€˜s standard beaufoy model and would avoid the tumbled leather options though they get floppy with time adidas superstar. less played out than a samba but still great. have owned many black pairs over the years. watch out for the mesh lining it is susceptible to overwear/ripping if you donā€™t have them in a rotation, in rotation they can last years literally any kind of mary jane, especially the tabi ones but the mary jane is just a beautiful shoe in basically all incarnations. donā€™t own any rn would love to though

Sometimes I think Iā€™ve reached, like, the end of TV. I donā€™t really care about prestige drama. Reality franchises on their 7th or 12th iteration bore me. I gave up on cable news because it made me more jittery than coffee.I can watch HGTV for hours though. Inject all that mid-period Chip & Joanna straight into my veins. Show me all the secret brick-cuttters working on the fringes of Laurel, Mississippi. Interested in couples therapy? Sit with a few episodes of ā€œLove It or List It.ā€ Want to know exactly why that first wave of commercials for ā€œChristina on the Coastā€ got reedited? Iā€™ll tell you if you ask nice. Most of these shows revolve around how to make something more beautiful. Beauty fades, though. Is your dream built to last? When it crumbles, Mike Holmes can fix it. A no-nonsense Canadian who tears down drywall with bare hands, he has a persistent mien of disappointment. Electricians, roofers, landscapers, plumbers - theyā€™re all colossal idiot cost-cutters who prey on unsuspecting homeowners. In Mike Holmesā€™s world, all is chaos, and he is the only hope for order. On his old shows - ā€œHolmes on Homes,ā€ ā€œHolmes Inspection,ā€ and so on, you get the point - - he glumly but firmly tears apart homes to find the evils that lurk within. Heā€™s almost impossibly astute, an ā€œIyanla, Fix My Lifeā€-level reader of the needs of a house - and its owners. (Reruns air mostly on the DIY Network, part of the extended Discovery/HGTV ecosystem.)Ā I love how simple the homes are, and how catastrophic the hidden scars are. And yet time and again, he makes it right - an everyman healer and an avatar of the lost art of competence. In a time when every day feels like free fall, these shows are a somber acknowledgment of the ubiquity of disrepair, and a paean to the belief - the certainty - that it can be overcome.

Iā€™ve seen these annual digests of the best in product innovation around forever but only started buying them recently. I grabbed one at a place in LA that had loads of dusty design books on the cheap. Not long after that, I went to a Housing Works on the UES because someone on TikTok said it had the best clothing selection. It didnā€™t, but they did have 2 of these for $10 each.Theyā€™re pure cheat code. Every good idea thatā€™s being ripped off by contemporary artisans is in one of these - lamps bent into unnatural shapes, shelves that donā€™t look like they hold very much, dinnerware that youā€™d never dare eat off of. The designs are Italian and Japanese, of course, but also Finnish, Canadian, Spanish, even American. Each edition has a different luminary as an editor: Arata Isozaki, Mario Bellini, Philippe Starck, freakinā€™ Alessandro Mendini. Theyā€™re tidy, portable museums.

This TikTok-favorite rapper is an inheritor of Drakeo the Ruler but also brings to mind Aceyalone and maybe even MC Paul Barman and what can I say, life is wild.
