I have a thing about having a lot of liquids nearby, it's sort of a vice, but it's comforting and supposedly healthy. Besides a crucial Nalgene, I like to have a fizzy boy at arms length and, if I can find this Spanish brand it makes me feel like finding Jolt Cola at a pizza place in the 90s. Love Topo Chico but craving something saltier? Vichy is your fix. Matthew Dear introduced it to me when I joined him on tour in Ibiza a decade ago so it probably is also a nostalgia thing for me. One sip takes you away to a little fish joint on the beach, water splashing against on the rocks.

The taste of Alka Seltzer if my favorite. I always wished for an unmedicated beverage to exist with the same flavor & the closest I've come is Vichy Catalan sparkling water. I love Alka Seltzer for a hangover like I'm in Mad Men. I love keeping it in my purse, offering it to people, & curing ailments from a cold to an upset stomach. It's versatile, classic, & consistent.

Anyone who knows me knows there's always a green bottle somewhere in my vicinity. I've been drinking this water for over 15 years, before it was popular. When I was in Austin for a job I went to the deli and picked some up and as the gentleman was checkingĀ me out he says, "Elvis water, huh." I ask him, "What do you mean?" and he goes, "Elvis used to only drink Mountain Valley Water. It was like his thing." Turns out, on the MV website, they remark that it was the water Elvis exclusively drank and if it was good enough for Elvis...

Topo chico is the gold standard but Iā€™ve been buying just regular canned sparkling water because I can drink a lot more of them and pay way lessā€” Iā€™ve been buying Klarbrunn again itā€™s kind of slept on. Kombuchaā€¦ I get the Kirkland signature organic lemon ginger. Iā€™ve recently switched from Coke Zero to Diet Coke because it has almost twice as much caffeine? I also have a reserve case of Monster Zero Ultra at all times. I posted about hot lemon water yesterday thatā€™s an evergreen favorite for me. Matcha is great I know people say to buy ceremonial but Iā€™m not that precious about it I like Rishi everyday matcha. I just got a giant thing of Kirkland turmeric for golden milk lattes and I also love tazo chai lattesā€¦ Writing this out Iā€™m realizing I drink a lot of beverages in addition to the absurd amounts of espresso I drink šŸ¤”

I started a playlist series called Herb Sundays, which came out of posting sort of uncool (ā€œherb-yā€) records that I was listening to online and thinking about how the perfect Sunday records get played when other people arenā€™t looking. I don't feel bad plugging this series because itā€™s free and the mixes are by other people than myself. I donā€™t think I could host a podcast so this scratches the itch of inviting interesting people to contribute to something beyond my regular job, and its also purely for fun. Music discovery is one of lifeā€™s great gifts. A good new song can make your week, and a good mix can make your day. This series is also a love letter to the Mixtape. I still think a hand-cranked mix is one of the greatest DIY projects as far low-effort satisfaction on both ends of the chain. Iā€™m not anti-algo on the whole, it has a place, but you can feel it when someone puts time into making a great mix.

Stripping back the cult of ENO and just looking at the music, Music For Airports has got it all. Forget the Isaac Newton-y backstory (TLDR: Eno is bedridden while recuperating after being hit by a car, friend visits and puts on record, volume too low to ā€œhearā€ properly, turntable too far to reach, the idea of music as room ā€œtintā€ ensues), and the brilliance of the technical execution, the tunes are what matter here. I actually met ENO once, yes, in an airport. I associate this music along with a lot of the ENO cannon as the search for a romantic life. That there is more going on than meets the eye, but only if you look for it. Also the idea of Eno as the consummate ā€œnon-musicianā€ is very appealing/comforting to me. Eno apparently said he sought to create music ā€œas ignorable as it is interestingā€ which is great, and is coincidentally the basis of my personality.
